Hello,
I'm running the cyclical Ketogenic diet and loving it so far.
Wanted to know who else has run it, their experiences, thoughts, feedback, or concerns.

I've been on it for starting on my eighth week and Love it! I've dropped a considerable amount of body fat. Didn't check before I started but would guess 15% bf, tested in the beginning of last week and was 10.7 % at the same body weight. I'm hoping in the next 3 weeks to hit 8% then I will reintroduce carbs in my diet to bulk and lift heavy


My energy levels are pretty low even with caffeine, mct oil and preworkout drinks. Also my lifts are no where near as much as I used to lft before keto but I look way better so I'm happy with that
 
I have found that just simple carbohydrate cycling is good enough. Going into ketosis is not necessarily something that is necessary. If you keep carbs low enough your body will burn fat.

The body using stored fat for energy is a sliding scale, not an on or off. Something to think about!

As long as you like it, and you are seeing results, that's all that matters!
 
I've done Lyle's CKD...great results...wasn't my favorite as far as bodybuilding goals go but it works great.

I prefer carb cycling during the week now.
 
My trainer has me on a straight ketogenic diet. When I asked him about cyclical ketogenic diet, he said there is a risk that you will come out of ketosis (i.e. your body will stop running on fat) and it will take 3 days to get back into ketosis.

He said it is conceivable some guys can do it without coming out of ketosis, and those guys will continue to make good progress. But for those who drop out of ketosis it will be roller coaster ride and not very enjoyable (remember how awful you felt the first time you started a keto diet).

Thats exactly my point. I think its silly to say you HAVE to be in ketosis to burn fat. It is just simply NOT the case. You have to be in ketosis to stay in ketosis, thats it.
 
Wow, great feedback everyone and thank you! I usually do carb cycling for cutting and I'm really loving this also. Already dropped 7 pounds this week, from 246 to 239 this morning. I'm a little over 5'11 and 15% bodyfat before. Eating 3200 cals a day, lifting 6 days a week, 2 being leg days, hams and quads specific. I'm getting a little hungry at night is my usual only time of hunger. Also doing 5 days of 30 mins of cardio a week.
Yes, from my reading, the carb up does not stop you from burning fat or using fat as energy source. After the induction period your body is adapting to burning fats compared to glycogen. So even though you go put of keto sis, you still burn fat as long as you dont get really stupid with your meals.
I'm going to run it till October atleast when I get my labs done again. Unless, I hit my goal and want to carb cycle again. Interested in seeing how it affects my labs. I want to stay as healthy as possible.

I think you're right. So long as you remain in a Kcalorie defecit, you will burn fat. But ketosis is where your body is burning fat through a different pathway (i.e. "running on fat" not carbs) and the metabolic change over can be hell for some of us.

End of week one.

Just thought I'd drop an update.
End of week 1, still in induction period, no carb up this weekend, eating min 3200 cals a day, down 10 pounds, at 236.6 pounds. I am noticeably leaner, veins starting to really show everywhere, and the top row of my abs sticking out through my work out shirt when I'm lifting.
Going to keep everything the same till this weekend and will carb up. The most noticeable difference I'm feeling in the gym is my last rep on sets. I'm one for pushing one or two more out on a set when I'm fatigued. Not able to do that now, when I go for one more, can't get it up and have to have a spot. Crazy!
