There seems to be two types of people when it comes to losing fat...the "if you eat too low your metabolism will slow down quickly and you won't lose fat" group, and the "eat less calories, lose more fat" group.

I don't know who to believe. Based on my experience of losing fat (lost 50-60 pounds of pure fat last year), I lean towards the "Eat less, lose more fat" theory. It seems to be when I cut down my calories to 1500 and below, I look better and better in the mirror every day. Flatter, harder, leaner all around. Less water retention from less consumption, too.

What are your thoughts of the Protein-Sparing Modified Fast? It's basically a very low calorie diet where you maintain as high protein as possible and lift heavy to preserve muscles. I've seen very impressive/dramatic results in just 2-3 weeks of doing this. So for example, 1000 calories & 150+ grams of protein would be a day of nutrition on the PSMF diet.

It just seems like there's so many people here who think it's LUDICROUS to eat less than 500 calories below "maintenance." Then there's the people who think calories don't even matter, it's all about macronutrients. I'm just so confused. I'm trying to cut down to 8% BF and I thought I was doing great, but after reading what some of the pros have to say here I'm actually questioning my diet even though it's working. I'm currently @ 12-13% BF.

What is the deal?

If what you are doing is working, then keep doing it until it stops working, then try another way. Keep it simple.
