Is anyone on here an independent insurance agent? I'm about to retire and am looking into it as a second career that would allow me to be flexible with my time. I'm wondering if anyone has experience and can tell me what to expect and what companies are better or worse to work for.

I have a full time job currently and got a real estate license a year and a half ago. Haven't sold anything yet tough business to get into

You'll really have to spend a lot of time working if you want to be successful. The successful agents have been doing it fir a while and have a big book of business and at that point can sit back and let the premiums roll in.

I worked as an insurance agent for one of the big company's out there while I was in college. I worked normal business hours but also had to do outside marketing for the agency (I wasn't the owner of the agency) and still get in my classes.

If you got started on the business young or took over Someone else's book of business, you can be very flexible with your time. But just getting starts is going to wear you out if you want to enjoy retirement

You most def have to clock 50-60 hour work weeks your first year, additionally join the local chamber of commerce, kiwanis club and any other local business owners associations.

Ind?

If ur looking to be an ind you work for you. You don't work for them and you get appointments with as many as you can . Problem is you have to earn some contracts. They want to see you can do it with lessor companies before they will partner with you.
