I am planning to move towards having 5 smaller meals a day rather than 3 large ones. I have noticed it's really very difficult to eat healthy snacks. Cookies, Muesli bars and other snacks from local shops are not exactly healthy. What are some good healthy snacks that i can have instead of like chips and something else? Does anyone have any healthy recommendations?

I have struggled with this same issue, i spent a long time looking at the right stuff to eat. Small and often is the trick, however i found that i'd get too tempted whilst on, and instead of a protein shake i'd reach for some solid food (usually unealthy)

Tapering carbs towards the end of the day seems to help, i also hear somewhere that potato can cause insulin spikes.

tuna, skinless chicken breast (i wouldnt even bother pretending the kfc type chicken is beneficial) and other lean meats, veg that is low in calories such as green beans, carrots, sweetcorn. you can usually buy microwavable steam bags of veg, i found these very usefull.

portion size and whats in it is the most important imo. I was speaking to an amazingly ripped guy the other week who was prepping for a natural contest and he said that he doesnt count calories but just looks at portion size and makes sure EVERYTHING he eats is natural, so no processed anything.

when you look into it, at the supermarket, you have to go out of your way to actively seek foods that have not had millions of e numbers added, or any meat that hasnt been injected with water to make it look nice.

Other than women, potato chips are my biggest weakness and we all know the effects of each. Try some apple slices dipped in low fat yogurt, or hollow out some fresh strawberry's and fill them with yogurt. Very tasty!!!
 
in a bowl mix 1 scoop chocolate whey protein , 1 scoop chocolate casine protein , 1 tablespoon splenda 1 teaspoon unsweetened coco powder and mix lightly.
add 3oz water and mix well , it should end up about the consistance of peanutbutter , if its thin ad a little bit (teaspoon) casine at a time and mix it will thicken quick.

You can also add peanut butter if you need the added fat macro.

Either eat on apple slices or put on rice cakes (makes enough for 3)

this with a big green apple makes 50-60g protein and 20-25g carbs near zero fat , about the same with the rice cakes but much more filling

I mix this up but use 2.5 scoops just casine and a tablespoon of peanut butter as my last meal mixed thick and put in the fridge for a30 min its like eating chocolate fudge.

I keep a big bowl of this at the house cause my kids love it with the apples

there is nothing wrong with eating 3 large meals during the day. another bodybuilding myth that is blown out of proportion. there have been numerous recent studies showing better appetite control and lower blood sugar both while being in a non-catabolic state eating 3 meals.

the idea of the 5+ to keep your metabolism going is bullshit

55 i agree to an extent - timing of those 3 larger meals is what is going to be critical to his advancement...lean gains is a good read

This is a great guide line, stay close to this and you will feel great after a week, put this into play and stick with it.

Bouns* Almond/Coconut milk is GREAT...

I drink a ton of coconut water with pulp before training and directly after.

Turkey meat is great for you (Turkey dogs, turkey bacon, turkey sausage, turkey breasts)

Best Breakfast:
Turkey Breakfast Tacos

Scrambles eggs
Cut up turkey bacon / sausage
Spinach
and a "little" cheese

"Fage" yogurt( I use this as sour cream and yogurt )
