Type 1 Diabetic Journey to the Stage!

OK. Some of you may know my background, but I am type 1 diabetic and have been for over 11 years now.

Used to be obese, I am just under 5'5 and was over 200lb in high school.

This is the fattest pic I can find. 165lbs

7PqWeiw.jpg

Not only was I fat, but my health was terrible. At the age of 18, my Doctor prescribed me blood pressure and cholesterol meds because they were VERY high. That was a wake up call for me! Instead of getting the prescriptions filled, I took to eating better, exercising and losing weight.

After a year I lost 75lbs! I was down to 128lbs! And have been building myself back up ever since!

gmQbufeYxDUwHjsdnvJkTNBsmfnZrWNZXyBr-610xh.jpg

157lbs

Now, my doctor says that she has never had a patient with better BP and Cholesterol. Funny how hard work and diet work so well.

So fast forward to now!
DXcnGNg.jpg

I have wanted to compete for a while, last prep I ended up shattering my ankle due to a hypoglycemic episode/seizure, and needed surgery.

I have my eyes set on the 2013 NPC Pennsylvania Classic in Allentown, PA on August 24th.

I will log my workouts and progress up until the show, along with the challenges of being diabetic and getting ready for a show.

START PICS: 169lbs

Got some work to do! Tonight I well get my last 2 Workouts in.

I base my routine a lot of of Phil's teachings. When I met Phil, his training tips are really what got me growing!

I appreciate tips a long the way, with posing and what not.

I am working with IFBB Pro Fakhri Mubarak.

13 Weeks and 4 Days Out
2013 NPC Pennsylvania Classic

Started the morning off with 30 mins on the 15 degree incline treadmill. Keeping cardio light, heart rate around 120.

Working a trade show for work all day today and tomorrow. Very boring, I really do not want to be here haha.

Chest/Back/Calves tomorrow whenever I get home late tomorrow night.

13 Weeks and 2 Days Out
2013 NPC Pennsylvania Classic

Well found out that we can start moving our stuff into our new house tomorrow! We officially close on Wednesday!

So today was legs, but I will be busy tomorrow, moving furniture all day, so I also hit shoulders and arms today. Whole workout took 53mins! I busted ass!

DB Laterals:
40 x 6 +10 Partials
35
30

Single Arm Hammer Curls:
40 x 8
35
30

EZ Bar Curl:
80 x 7

Then did 10mins of HIIT, 60 Second lower, 30 Second higher on the stepmill.

Standing Calve Machine:
Loaded the machine and did 3 sets to failure, the machine doesn't hold enough so I did holds and long negatives to hit failure. Did not write down what I did.

Then did some abs.

I felt great today! Going to be working hard tomorrow!

After triceps I forgot to add I did this....

Seated Leg Curl:

Good luck, my Brother!
You can do it. If you think it'll be hard, it will be.
Be extra diligent with those BS.

Thanks. That is one of the big things I have learned over the years. Blood sugar control. When I have them running steady in a good range, fat loss, muscle gain, strength are much better and more effective.

Just sticking the the basics, not going to add anyything that will mess with blood sugars much and just do work!

Sweating my ass of on the treadmill right now!

Very nice work put in there. Best of luck all the way to your show. I'll be following along!

Funny a few posts back I was talking about blood sugar control....

sorry for the wall of text,...

Went out last night, ordered just some steak and a baked potatoe. Still on diet, so that was cool. I had 4 glasses of diet coke....what I thought was diet coke (i cannot taste the difference between diet and regular)

Blood sugars SKYYYYY Rocketed it. So insulin was flying high last night, blood sugars were over 300 all night,

This mornign I wake up, sugars are very high...made me mad, went and trained legs. Got home, still pissed off and started eating...binge eating almost.

I have used more insulin in the past 24 hours than I do over the course of almost a week!

Worst part is, with the high high insulin, I know better than to eat a lot of fats....did not stop me from downing 8oz or more of cashews!

Blood sugars are finally starting to go down, those sodas will screw me up for a few days, plus this eating.

When my sugars get high like that, I need to just take a few mins and calm down, and think logically.

I am 13 Weeks out, so better happening now, than 4 weeks out.

13 WEEKS! THAT IS ALL

I have food triggers bad. So first 4 weeks, NO cheat meals, Fakhri allows me one per week if I want it. I will keep the diet as planned for 4 Weeks really get the ball rolling before I add in a small cheat.

SO FRUSTRATING, SO MAD AT MYSELF. NO MORE EXCUSES FAT ASS. PUT THE EFFORT YOUR PUT IN THE GYM INTO YOUR DIET AND WILL POWER!

PCT right now, 2 more weeks or so left

Well it took a few days, but blood sugars are FINALLY back to normal!

That binge was bad, I usually use about 20 to 24 units of humalog a day. Over the past 2 or 3 days...I used about 250...250 UNITS!

No more binging, not only is it bad for my goals but for my health. My blood sugars hit 600! They were 250 to 400 for 2.5 days straight, insulin was just not working.

Live and learn.

Cannot wait to train tomorrow!!!!!!

12 Weeks and 5 Days Out

I think with a little over 12 Weeks left, as long as I bust ass, stick to the plan, all should go well.

Did 30mins of cardio this morning. Finished breakfast a bit ago, going to eat one more meal and then train! It is one of those days where I just wanna get in the gym! Having a hard time sitting here!

12 Weeks and 5 Days Out
2013 NPC Pennsylvania Classic

Started my Memorial Day off with 30 Mins of LISS Cardio, took the progress pics seen above.

Came home and the wife and I went shopping, getting some final stuff before we officially move into our new house!!!

Here is todays workout...

Incline Smith:
245 x 6 -10lbs +1 Rep
225 x 7

Flat DB Press:
100 x 5 DROP 75 x 6
*started out funny, I will kill the 100s next time!*

Extended Incline Flyes:
I sit on an 80lb DB on the bench, this allows my upper back to be free. Doing flyes like this is awesome, all that I feel working is the pecs.
Did these with a 3 to 4 second negative, and hard squeeze at top
40 x 12

Dips: BW = 170
BW +55lbs x 13 +10lbs -2 Reps

Pullups: BW = 170
BW + 25 x 6 +1 Rep
BW x 10
BW x 7

Pendlay Rows:
185 x 5

Two Arm DB Rows:
80 x 8
70 x 12
70 x 9

1 Arm DB Rows:
Using Jeff Alberts Technique and 3 to 4 second negatives
65 x 10 + 3 blasted reps

Standing Calve Raise on Smith:
470 x 12
470 x 12
470 x 12 + Partials

Man those were heavy!

Making progress, still getting stronger in some areas even in PCT.

Took these when I got home, got out of truck and legs looked good

y2UROnr.jpg

This was in the reflection of the truck, so it is a little skewed

Seeing those veins, and the lines coming in my glutes at a little over 12 weeks out, man if I nail this prep and keep my diabetes under control, things are going to be nuts!

Squats tomorrow!

Wow, past few days have been nuts. Working long days, plus moving, plus the gym, putting in like almost 19 hour days! Still no excuse to not train hard though

A few days ago I hit harms, progressed on every exercise! Still getting stronger!

Here is yesterday's workout.

Flat DB Press:
100 x 9 +3 Reps
90 x 11
80 x 12

Decline Flye:
40 x 10

Incline BB Press:
4 Second negative, driving hands in together on bar.
135 x 12

Holy crap, chest was so full. Felt like my shirt was going to rip. My shirt was literally baggy when the pump faded haha.

Pullups from the top of smith machine: BW = 170
Holding the machine itself, not the bar.
12 with Shoulder Width Grip
8 with Shoulder Width Grip
8 with Wider Grip
6 with Wider Grip

V Handle Pulldown:

130 x 12 with Wide V Handle
130 x 12 with Underhand Grip on Cambered Bar

Straight Arm Pulldown:
110 x 15

Ended with 20mins of hit on the stepper.

Some progress pics after unpacking last night

12 Weeks Out
2013 NPC Pennsylvania Classic

Got up at 5:15am, had breakfast then headed to the gym. Had to move the new bedroom set, new living room set and couch, new dining room, and move old furniture to garage. A lot of work, so I got the gym out of the way first thing.

Seated Leg Curls:
130 x need to find my log
115 x
120 x

Single Leg DB SLDL:
125 x 12
125 x 10

Somersalt Squats:

100 x 12
100 x 12
100 x 12

Holy crap, those are no joke! Stupid pump, stupid!

3 Sets of leg raises of 25 Reps each.

Then did 20mins on the stepmill

11 Weeks and 5 Days out
2013 NPC Pennsylvania Classic

Crushed arms and delts yesterday! I will get the workout posted tonight. Finally done with the move! THANK GOD! But I did roll the ankle I broke a while ago, and am back in a support boot, hurts like hell. Hope I did not knock a screw loose...

Here are my update pics for the week. I had to eat a lot of extra carbs over the past few days due to low blood sugars from moving stuff.
