Saw a program on the PBS channel a couple of days ago. It was titled "Fasting and Longevity." The whole theme of the program was about reducing your IGF-1 levels. Because according to study after study high IGF-1 levels will reduce your life span by 10 or 20 years. They were talking about getting it down to 40 or less. I had a test for IGF-1 a year ago and Lab Corp said the normal range was 75 to 212 ng/ml.
The moderator was also the test subject and all his tests were done in the US.
The way they were getting the levels down was by fasting. 1st fast was a 4 day fast every month. Fasting was described as 600 calories a day. The 2nd fast was fast 1 day then eat normal the next day, continuously doing the every other day fast. 3rd fast was 2 days every 3 weeks. All the fasts were successful in reducing IGF-1 levels down below 40.
IGF-1 is linked to increased prostate cancer risk.(By more than 50% higher) Increased risk of other types of cancer. Increased risk of heart disease and increased risk of alzheimers disease. The most stunning finding with rats and mice was the 60% reduction in life span, when they had high levels of IGF-1.
It looks like the future of bodybuilding is going to be with SARMS and myostatin inhibitors. That is for anyone who is interested in living a normal life span.
