Insulin gone bad

I've have a bottle of humilin r and novolog and neither one of them expire till 2015. Am I the only one unaware of the concept that insulin is ok to use until the expiration date as it's still sealed. Someone told me after popping the cap it starts to be contaminated after 28 days. Is this true? If it is now I know why I've been having crazy bowel movements the past few days. Got a brand new bottle of humalog today and everything went great. Could definitely tell a difference with the pump. Damn bottle was 160$ though. Gonna be an expensive next few weeks of slin.

Seriously, depends if it is refrigerated how sterile you were before when drawing from it, etc... I know they have nolvolog in a 10 ml vial at 100 units per ml, that is 1000 units per vial...if that were the case then let's say at 10 iu's per day, that is still a 100 days of use, way over the 28 day theory.

I am not a doctor, but one way to find out. Shoot it and see if you get a local reaction

Most diabetics use about a vial per month. That's where the 28 days comes from.
