I know this is a bit odd and off-topic, but I'm getting desperate... I've been having a problem in my right eye for years now... I've been to 4 or 5 eye doctors, who all gave me drops and said that it was in infection... I think it started at a job-site, I was in a moldy basement and I left there irritated as hell...

Anyway, it comes and goes and usually it comes back in the late spring or early summer... This year was the worst ever, being that it seems to be seasonal, I thought it was allergies, but the doc said that if it was allergies, it would be both eyes, not just one...

It was so bad that I went back to an eye doctor, who told me to put heat on it with a warm towel for a few minutes every morning, then at night and wash it out with baby shampoo, he also gave me drops... He did the same thing on the follow up visit... Oh I saw him last year and he did the same thing... This year it got really bad after I did what he said, I got what looks like a hole in my eye and my vision is blurry, plus I got a lump on my eye lid...

So I went to a specialist, who told me the same thing, but he prescribed a different ointment, that's only an anti-biotic, plus oral anti-biotics... Well, it's been over a month and that didn't work either!!! I still have the lump and my eye sight is worse than ever, he said that I had an ulcer and it left a scar in my eye... He also said that the lump could be caused by dandruff, but I didn't think I had dandruff, but I added nizoral anyway, just for good measure...

So now I resorted to taking a well known Mexican anti-biotic oral and ointment that I got otc from a Mexican grocery store, everyone swears by it... but I see little improvement... have any of you had anything like this? can it be gear related? I read that it might possibly be VD like syphilis or something like that, the good thing is that the anti-biotic form Mexico (Teramicina) is used to treat Syphilis if that's in fact what I have... I work with my eyes and this really sucks, I almost feel like having it removed and replaced with a glass eye... Any input would be appreciated...

But seriously I have something similar in both eyes turned out to be ocular rosacea once it was finally diagnosed properly I was prescribed lotemax eye drops keeps it under control.

I am a welder/fabricator by trade

The constant welding,grinding,etc, plays havoc with my eyes.I get infections about every six months.A homemade remedy that seems to work well for us in the welding industry is a sliced potatoe over each at night.
Do not know the science behind it,but it does help with imflammation.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm glad I posted this, because I've already been prescribed 5 or 6 different meds... Ointments, drops and oral... But I looked up ocular rosacea and that sounds exactly like what I have... I don't think I took those drops, but the symptoms sound just like what I have now, so I'm going to give these new meds a few more days, then I'm going back to the eye doc to tell him about this...

I didn't think I had syphilis because then my girl would've had it and she doesn't have any symptoms of anything at all, but I was trying to rule out everything and it was one of the possible causes of what I was going through... We'll see... Thanks again... I'll also try to potato for the inflammation, it sure couldn't hurt...

Ive found that Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan works well for eye infections that linger. I prefer the NOW brand, It is an anti viral/fungal

Thanks for the responses... But Ocular Rosacea sounds like it... The symptoms are pretty much exact what I'm having the eye docs just said it was an infection and wanted to treat mostly the symptoms which were the infection and the lump that I have... Unfortunately according to the treatments for ocular rosacea, I have to give up alcohol and spicy foods, two of my favorite things... I was eating peppers with almost every meal and having red wine every night... I'm going to lay off both today and tonight as a start to see how that works...

Alcohol and spicey foods definately make rosacea worse and I love mexican food tequilla and anything with jalapenos in it.

Yes,it plays havoc on my eyes.I wear some sort of eye protection the whole time I am working,but,inevitably,I will get a major eye infection every few months.I got my most recent one this past Thursday night.When I woke up from a nap after work,my eyes were so badly swollen I could only see blurs.Had to call my older brother to come over to the house and take me to the ER.
Makes me seriously consider a career change.

I am so glad that I posted here, I'm getting better advice than what I did from the four eye doctors I went to... I was dieting on only fish and one of my favorite meals was 1lb of steamed prawns, broccoli, serono peppers, onions, with red habanero sauce all over it and a side of avocado... It's awesome, I was looking forward to that meal every night PWO... Now I have to lose the peppers and habanero sauce, that sucks... But if that and cutting back on the booze get rid of this thing, then I'm happy... I was getting so desperate, I thought that my ex put a fucking curse on me...

I was getting ready to find the bitch and decapitate her, or burn the bitch, whatever it is you do to witches... She once told me that she was into that shit and that she put a curse on her ex-bf... Plus she's all tatted up and looks like she's into that shit... Oh well, I'll try these other remedies first...

WOW. So you are a welder and perhaps some kind of scarring of the cornea happened? Just curious. I hope you recover 100% and get back to normal. Guess this means you can still have your alcohol and hot peppers!? I know for me that would be tough to drop those.

No I am not a welder, I work in the architectural/Engineering field... They're not sure what caused this, they think it was an infection, but they're running tests to figure out what it is... They took a lot of blood and found nothing so far, they thought it could've been caused by herpes... (It's a different type of herpes not an STD) it comes from birth and appears later... Because I asked if my girl would have it, if it was herpes, the head surgeon said that it's completely different than genital herpes... In either event, they don't think that's it now, so we'll see how the blood work turns out, because it would suck to have the transplant but still have it infected, so right now I'm on a steroid drop (Prednisone) an antibiotic drop 5 times a day and an oral anti-biotic twice per day... They said spicy food is ok, I laid off the booze myself for a while, because I don't want to risk bumping it during sleep by getting careless... The stitches have to remain for at least six months, no heavy lifting for at least five weeks... Check it out...

That is always one of my fears when I get an eye infection,that it will take surgery to fix it.

Hey bro I just want to share my experience with you. 3 years ago I had shingles which is the same virus as chicken pox and it went into my right eye and I took anti-viral meds to help it. You said it started after expiosure to mold(fungus) so you may want to look into attacking it from that point of view. I recommend you look into some great natural anti-fungals such as NSC-24 Beta Glucan as its the best one I know of and they even have an eye formula. Also supplements like Dr. Ohhiras Probiotics are strong anti-fungals as well and the only one I would take because of the research and effort put into this product. correct they thought i somehow scratched it or it couldve been an ulcer or some kind of vorus but so far the blood work shows nothing... theyre still reviewing it because sometimes the microbes can show up later... its been going on for years but the tear and rupture are recent...
