Anybody else do these? I cant really find any threads with the search function.

I do standing bb strict press and love it! I know people mention injuries but these feel very natural to me

I've been doing scrap the rack presses as of late:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H28Pwqw7PWA]John Meadows' Scrape the Rack Press - YouTube[/ame]

I use them towards the end of my session and super set them with cable or rubber band high rep side raises really gets the shoulders burning.

I also always use a belt and keep it strict with a slight bend in my knees when I push so I try and take most of the pressure off my lower back. I would never try and do them crazy heavy.

i do a lot of standing strict press, push press, push jerk and split jerk. i havent done seated military press in years.

I've seen them scrape the rack presses before but I like the thought of having to stabilise it all myself.

I havn't been wearing a belt recently as I'm trying to increase the strength of my core - I don't do them really heavy though I only do 90kg for my sets. if I was doing heavier I guess a belt would be a must.

Like Em but I get a popping in my shoulder so I can't do Em. But, if I use dumbbells a I'm ok

The seated version actually hurts my back. I always do standing. Currently behind-the-neck version.

I do them every so often... usually once every 2 weeks. I don't go that heavy though and do high reps.

I alternate. One week bb one week db.. Love both but I feel dumbell gives a better isolation in the medial delt. And barbell is more of a front delt excercise.

I have a hard time with the BB standing press as after a few reps I end up compensating by bending back a little and using the chest/front delts more.

Generally just do either smith machine behind the neck presses (DoggCrapp exercise) or plain old seated DB presses.

I like them but I dont lower the bar too far. I basically go until my triceps hit my lats, which is about chin level. I think if they're done correctly, ie you finish the rep with the bar over your "crown" part of your hair, then they hit both front and side delts really well.

Studies have shown seated are more effective than standing. I switched to the smith machine since my goals are just to maintain muscle these days. I love starting my shoulder workouts with these.

I am a Physical Therapist. I have seen a lot of labrum tears from behind the neck presses. I see dumbell military presses as the most complete exercise for the shoulders with a smaller risk of injury. To do standing presses seems like it takes the focus off the delts and more on the core. Also standing puts a incredible amount of compression force through the lumbar spine. With seated behind the neck presses, one has to remove the bar from the rack to get into position and this opens up for injury. Using the smith machine reduces the risk but i have always felt the smith machine was kind of worthless for many exercises. takes away the balancing aspect of the free weights. Dorian Yates called behind the neck presses worthless.

One of my best body parts is my shoulders. My number #1 exercise has been barbell/dumbbell military presses. I never have like behind the neck,,,for me always awkward and uncomfortable.

Dumbell military presses with palms facing forward (as they would be if using a barbell) or palms facing each other??

your brother in Christ,

Lucky

Anyone do pretty heavy weights with the barbell? has lifting a lot of weight like this created big shoulders?

I do seated behind the neck. 185 max. I'm scared to go any heavier for fear of tearing something.

I would say try each method and use the one that feels right for you. I like to start facing fwd and then rotate at the top of the motion to palms facing together. I have found with this method u have to focus on form rather than weight.

More and more i like dumbell stuff vs. barbells.
