Chemicals in Cleaning Products

Do people pay attention to the chems in their cleaning products - soap, shampoo, household cleaning, deodorants, face creams etc?

Without being too neurotic about this stuff, is it to be avoided? Who here uses organic/natural remedies?

Main reason I'm asking is with sometimes training twice per day I can be spraying deodorant etc quite alot and want to know if anyone here is knowledgeable about this stuff and if I should change the products I use (all just standard high street stuff currently).

Thanks.

My wife just started using something to cleaning pretty much everything and it's frickin amazing.
Vinegar and Blue Dawn dish soap. Sounds strange and smelly.... it is. BUT, it works amazing! We have well water with iron in it so our tubs get filthy, this works just as good as harsh chemicals, maybe better! The thing is you have to heat up the vinegar before using it, I can get specifics if you want

i would have to imagine that anything you spray into the air could get into your body easier through your lungs then it could by other avenues.

I try to be cognizant of it because I have kids and pets...

I basically stick to murphys oil soap and bleach for almost everything in the house aside from the dishwasher which gets the manufacturers recommended cleaning stuff...
I don't go too crazy about it though because I like things to actually be CLEAN but I have stone and wood floors so everything needs to be mild in that respect anyway.

using hibiclens for an underarm wash can greatly cut down on deodorant use because it nukes every bit of bacteria and can be left on as a slight film without irritation

Shop at whole foods market or make your own cleaning supplies from scratch. You can find materials online.

I think some people really over think using organic cleaning supplies to much. Petroleum, gas, is "organic"! As for soaps/shampoo used on your skin, NOTHING in that soap is absorbing through your skin, yet even coming close to getting in your bloodstream. I mean, women spend billions of dollars a yr in USA alone on "anti-aging" facial creams... do they work? NO! Why not, because it does not penetrate deep enough to really be effective. So these are products that are TRYING to penetrate, yet are useless. You should be more concerned about the Ph of the products being put on your body, is your water hard/soft, are you moisturizing after stripping it with w/e soap? "Organic" is a BS marketing ploy.

Just cleaned a lot of my house with that this weekend. It does work great! Smells pretty strong but works really well.

Orange or lemon essential oil.
Vinegar
Water
Spray bottle

Contents will separate as we all know oil sits on top water. Give it a shake and it works very well. For the cost of one or two bottles of commercial "natural" cleaner you can make a year supply of this stuff.

As for deodorant I have to pick my battles and this is one where "natural" products kinda suck. The crystal deodorants are okay at keeping bacteria growth down a bit but all the scents kinda suck. I don't want to smell like patchouli, lavender or ylang ylang lol and unscented natural deodorant seems like the epitome of pointless lol.

The following is the only "natural" product I use everyday. Great lotion, price is reasonable, available at vitamin shop and I use it to shave my head and face everyday.

The ingredients are pretty bare bones and you know what it all is. I suppose if you are going to pick one thing maybe lotion is a good one as you put it all over and are hoping it soaks in.
