It's a talent I've always wanted to develop but is it something you either have or you don't or is it something anyone can develop? Not death metal growling, like Every Time I Die type screaming, and clean singing too...... most metal vocalists I've talked to claim they never practice or anything

I used to front a death metal act, but I really only did lows as the band was more old school death metal. I never practiced and my highs were alright if it was just a random one here and there, I can even hit falsettos on par with king diamond, but I couldn't do death core vocals with mostly screams or real singing. I think anyone can learn how to do it, but not unlike bodybuilding the best have a genetic gift for it.

It's just like bodybuilding.
genetics and exercise.
whatever you get depends on what you put into the exercise aspect. The genetics can't be changed.

Do the best you can if you enjoy it.

ghbrah is back

id rather listen to a table saw cut through steel piping..

LOL It's not a passion or anything, I just love singing/screaming along to my songs (mostly metal, but I'm into R&B and all kinds of stuff too) but man I can't hit any notes to save my life. Sure wish I could though.

Love me some Mercyful Fate / Diamond! Old School! But, I don't dare try and sing it. haha

I dont do it personally, but know many that do . The screaming is voice effects you can learn, sounds much different without a microphone. YOUTUBE Melissa Glaslow screaming. She teaches how to do it without ruining you're voice.

Thanks i'll look that up...... i'd love to play some local gigs just for the thrill.... I've been into metal since i was like in pre-k but was never musically inclined

Angela Glassow from Arch Enemy has some growling clinic videos on youtube. She has a great sense of humor too.

^ best metal singer in the history of metal

I'm hoping for two things this week:

A photo with her.

And to see her in a bikini.

Its a combo...you can definitely develop it and improve as you go. But some are naturally born to do it and then apply the practice too. Its really just a method that once you learn seems easy.

I don't do much music anymore but here was me when I did. Played all instruments except drums and bass as well.

And here was me after doing it for awhile (still less than 6 months total...got into vocals late then stopped music, guitar since I was 12)

That song was the heaviest thing I ever did haha

Chode, it sounds like a mixture of "We Came with Broken Teeth", "Necrophagist", and "Morbid Angel" LOL. Very nice sweeps in the first song btw.

I'm not into any heavy metal anymore except Arch Enemy. Totally lost interest as I got older. I'm not ashamed that I like Radiohead

We should have a sweep picking contest over skype sometime :D

yeah im in the same boat.

once I reached highschool I kinda grew out of it

im a big fan of Andrea Bocelli and Jonathan Antoine

love Patrick Cassidy's work too

Bocelli is definetly one of my favorites...

Yeah, I leave that kind of singing to the pros. A few good examples

Lamb of God - As The Palaces Burn
All Shall Perish - Black Gold Reign
The Haunted - Made Me Do It, rEVOVLEr
Iron Maiden - Killers, Iron Maiden, Powerslave, Number of the Beast

All Shall Perish was one of the best death metal bands to ever exist IMO.
Waging Slaves, Eradication, There is no business to be done on a dead planet, and a lot of stuff on their second album(I forget the name) were phenomenal at the time when I was into that stuff.

I'm going to have to /facepalm at the Lamb of God though:banghead::banghead::banghead:

:Dhahaha

You should give Children of Bodom's cover of Iron Maiden's "Aces High" a listen.

It's so awesome. :headbang:
