Who take an ace inhibitor and if so what brand, dose and how has it helped? Im using 5mg cialis and 12.5mg HCTZ as well as lots of otc supps and it has helped my BP but its still a bit too high. I know its from the stimulants I take which I am slowly weening off but in the mean time I dont like my BP being high. Beta Blockers have too many sides but seems like ace inhibitors have hardly any so seems like the way to go.

i took lisinopril 2.5mg for a short while. no sides.
it didn't differ from my 50mg lorsartan(cozaar) in terms of effects for blood pressure.
it is a angiotensin receptor blocker though(lorsartan). no side effects been on it for a year now everyday.

i also take beta blockers every 4 days or so if i feel like it
dandelion root 500mg per each meal + 2-3 gallons of water per day helps a bit too
i also take clonidine at night so that helps a ton as well for anxiety and lowering BP a lot.

Dandelione root just acts as a mild mild diuretic right? I haven't heard of clonidine.

yup mild diuretic, i would check it out. i take it for the bloating i get throughout the day on peptides although it has helped my blood pressure as i could see .
clonidine helps with anxiety and blood pressure significantly.

I'd go with telmisartan for an arb and make sure you take enough magnesium

Both ACE inhibitors and ARB's are good choices, IMO.

Both have their favourable effects on reducing BP. As well both share nephroprotective and vascular protective effects, there's some data that lisinopril may reduce or prevent glomerular damage. There's also some data that ACE inhibitors such as lisinopril may have suppressive effects on erythropoietin. This can be favourable to those with a chronically elevated RBC/hemoglobin/hematocrit in conjunction with hypertension. Ultimately, one should further evaluate the root cause of erythropoiesis adjacent to AAS. Such as undiagnosed sleep apnea.

An interesting thing about telmisartan outside of reducing blood pressure. It's acts as a full PPAR gamma agonist for insulin-sensitizing, and as a partial agonist/partial antagonist for pro-adipocytic activity, which may be beneficial for the prevention of body fat accumulation.

As aforementioned, both share some favourable effects, they both, as with all pharmaceutical drugs have side effects. Most are tolerable; at the same time, if any should arise, talk to your primary care provider to possibly switch it out to a different HTN drug.

.

It also reduces tnf alpha. I've taken it for years unprescribed. I think it's something worth taking especially for this lifestyle.

I have never heard of an arb. So my rbc's and hemp are usually on the higher unless I donate monthly and I have a cpap as well. There are so many choices how do you know where to begin? My bp mainly comes from weight as I'm 245lbs but not fat maybe 12-14 at most and my BP really elevates due to stimulants. So what would you think is best for me and what dose? Thanks

Very valuable information. Thanks for this.

Will have to stroll on over to my pharmacy and buy some telmisartan. i especially like that is has a half life of 24 hours as opposed to my lorsartan which is 6-9 hours.
Thanks for the info!

I have been taking Lisinopril for 8 years now and you shouldn't have any noticeable sides unless you get your BP too low. Previous to that I was on the ARB Benicar and never had any issues with that either. You are right about Beta Blockers, they suck and I don't think most docs would prescribe those to just lower you BP a bit. I take a beta blocker because it lowers my heart rate and helps prevent tachycardia and other heart arrhythmias.

I take benazepril, 20mg a day. It works totally fine as it should and she gives me 3 months at a time so i can always take another one if i have a bp spike or feel that i need one. Only 10 bucks for 3 months worth

There are so many choices of don't know where to begin. My cousin is a cardiologist I think I'll talk to him to see what's best for s bodybuilder as we are not the typical people who need blood pressure meds.

I've been taking lisinopril for about 4 weeks now, 20mg every day. I actually go in for my first check up since starting on fri.

I suspect the dose may be a bit too high. I feel like I get a little bit of orthostatic hypotension right now. Like if I bend over or squat down for more than a few seconds I get pretty light headed when I stand up.

Well looks like Lisinopril seems to be my best choice after talking to my cousin(out of state). He said start with 5-10mg and you can work your way up as needed. Very safe with few sides but if I start getting a persistent cough he said to stop it and switch to an arb. Now the ? Is what online pharm am I gonna order it from :(

lisinopril is great, i took my standard 50mg of lorsartan and 2.5mg of lisinopril for the weeks i was taking oral tren. definitely offset any issues

best of luck!

I've been using lisinopril at 20mg for about a week now and not getting much out of it. BP is still around 150/80. I'd like it to be 120's/70's. Do I need a higher dose of lisinopril? Cialis at 10mg/daily didnt do much for BP either. Im pretty heavy right now at 255lbs but im fairly lean but regardless its hard for me keep BP down when weighing so much. Plus I am prescribed adderall which really raises it. Should I try something else? Does this mean ace inhib's dont work well for me? I'd like to avoid beta blockers or any diuretics b/c I dont want to mess up electrolytes,etc...

Clonidine might be a good option for you. I take it sometimes when my bp spikes. I've been through a ton of bp meds for the past 12 years and nothing has lowered my bp significantly likek clonidine does. One thing to look out for is that it can make you drowsy but it works. Be careful though, immediately stopping this medication after taking it for awhile can have very bad implications and sides. As usual, consult with a doctor first.
