I was behind a lady in line at the pharmacy today and she was buying some Humulin R and the pharmacist said that it was $145 a bottle she freaked out and then the pharmacist told her she could get Novolin R for 25 bucks, she told her that it was the same thing but cheaper price ????

Yep, this is true!

I work in a compounding pharmacy, and people get prescriptions for the stupidest things. For example: melatonin, which cost much more with an Rx than it does OTC. Vitamin prescriptions are expensive too. I see patients come in and fill things like sodium and potassium prescriptions for way more $ than what they could be paying for a simple ass OTC supp. It's pretty ridiculous actually.

Dang, I used to order Humulin R over the net for like $40 a bottle and that was from Canada. I guess there is something to buying from Canada.

does it have to do with insurance pay if a script?

Yah, any of those complex protein-based pharma drugs should be expensive. Insulin is a bit different because it is always getting subsidized in various ways, and those ways change, leaving these baffling differences.

I know that Novolin is the subsidized brand for the day, especially used as Wal-Mart's "Rely-On" brand. I think that Walmart had used Humulin in the past but switched a few years ago?...

walmart has a deal with novo nordisk. they make novalin r exclusively for walmart and they sell it for 25 dollars a bottle with no prescription or insurance. Humalin r is about 145 depending where you buy it

The price has really come up. I just spent about 5 minutes on the net and the cheapest I could find it was $79 from a place in Canada. Looks like it is over the counter in Canada for some reason. Back about 8 or 9 years ago I was getting it for about $40 to $45 or so.

Just ran it through as an order to see shipping charge and it was $21 to north America, so total coast would be $100. Not much cheaper than at Walmart I suppose.

Yes this is true. Baffled my mind the first time as well. Even the Novilin R at CVS and Walgreens is $140-180 but at Walmart, Costco, etc, $25-35.

Proof of the pharmacy scam.

Just picked some up at Walmart a month or so ago for 25 yes.

Ok, I was thinking it might be but never did that .I used to order Humalog from Canada too.

Humalog is prescription only. R is not....although the pharmacist can refuse to sell it to you at his discretion. I've only had that happen once though

The price of slin ha stone through the roof. Spend 10 minutes on any diabeties website/forum and they are going nuts. You could get humulin r at Walmart for $27 at one time. Now even ordering from Canadian pharmacies it's like $80-$120

My gf is a diabetic. We got her blood sugar under control. So much so that she only takes metphormin now.
Needless to say our vegetable bin in the fridge is filled with insulin. If anyone needs it LMK before it experies

I think Humulin R and the likes skyrocketed in price once it became legal to sell OTC. I purchased my vial for $135 at COSTCO...I use it sparingly, so the 1x vial will laster throughout the year.

Unbelievable how much prices have gone up in the last a few years. Remember win 20 bucks was the normal
