For anyone here who has ever torn a labrum, we're initial symptoms things such as popping and clicking, dull ache, feeling as if the should joint is "loose" or unstable?

I'm calling to schedule an appointment in the morning...but just dreading the thought of possibly needing shoulder surgery, massive time out of gym, etc.

Get MRI arthrogram. Post up results. Will discuss findings and management options after we know extent of shoulder pathology

No need to take a lot of time off from the gym as you can still train 3/4 of your body.

the risk factory:
Falling on an outstretched arm
A direct blow to the shoulder
A sudden pull, such as when trying to lift a heavy object
A violent overhead reach, such as when trying to stop a fall or slide

Reduce the stress and intension of your shoulder, such as dumbell fiyes, you can do some light exercise of the shoulder and back after recovery.

I had the clicking/aching thing. My girlfriend is a physical therapist and said muscle imbalance was the issue. She had me doing some bodyweight shit that I thought was total BS but I did it anyway to make her happy. 2 weeks later, my shoulder is fine. No more clicking, no more pain. Kinda cool

Get orthopeadic consult , Ive had those and I did light exercise to resolve , but need to see extent of your particular injury from a Sports Medicine Orhtopaedic Specialist

That's inspiring...hopefully that is the case!!!

Thank you for sharing.

Definitely.

I've got an appointment with my GP in an hour and will get a referral to ortho.

I had mine done 15yrs ago...recovery will take time

Doc did tests, said it must not be a major injury due to my ability to compete them all with minimal discomfort.

Said to completely avoid upper body for 1 week...if discomfort is gone then good. If not, MRI.

Definitely.

If you can look up who the pro athletes from your city? My insurance covered same guys that work on Bruins , patriots Celtics . We workout so may need extra care to continue our lifestyle . They used extra thick cords when repairing my injury , also had my spine done - still do rehab as part of my routine . I loosen up delts doing what rehab/pt calls pendulum exercises .

if you don't feel good ,you should call a stop.
it will damage your body if you continue to workout regardless of your body reaction

it was a shooting pain initially and eventually turned into an ache. I tried to work around it for years...big mistake, so I went ahead and had the surgery.

i'm still not 100% but i definitely don't regret having the surgery.

How long were you unable to do upper body exercises after surgery?

Won't I be unable to train back and most likely chest though?

Well after having my shoulder surgery I still did one armed rows, pull downs , presses etc. With the blessing of my Ortho Sports Surgeon. Stimulating one side has shown to keep the other side from atrophying as much, as the nerves on both sides get stimulation.

Oh ok wow. So you're saying you just did back chest and shoulders for the opposite side of your body?

What exercises in specific did she have you do that proved to be so beneficial?
