Hey all going New Orleans in dec! Anyone got any tips for touristy things to do or eat? Really wanting to do a paranormal tour and eat some amazing food! Also how's the weather this time of the year?

Light jacket weather midday. 40s or 50s at night.

Gulf Coast seasons are...funny. Where I live, we get roughly two weeks of winter, spaced out between January and March. You'll want to pack something just in case you catch one of our 80 degree, 90% humidity days.

Touristy shit...obviously the French Quarter, Riverwalk, French Market. Everyone knows about Bourbon Street, but don't neglect Decatur. Less crazy shit, more quality dining.

Acme Oyster House is a place I like to hit when there's not a line of people waiting to get in. The chargrilled oysters will change your life, man.

I don't know if you keep your diet "on point" or not, but you can hang that shit up down there. New Orleans is about indulgence. If you leave without any food shame/regrets, you did New Orleans wrong.

Oh. Don't be like some of the doofuses I've taken down there, wearing fucking boots or heels or some shit. Comfortable walking shoes are a must. Pointless to pay for a cab and be stuck in traffic while the meter runs. Get your cardio in and burn off that morning's Cafe Du Monde caloric excess.

If you've never been to a swamp, you'd probably get a kick out of a swamp tour. Likely won't see any gators in December (maybe a small one) other than the sedated baby they pass around for everyone to hold, but the nature experience/scenery is worth the time.

Check out Oak Alley Plantation, too. Your lady will dig it.

Damn. That was my first post? Forgot I was just a lurker here. Ha

Ride the creole queen paddle wheeler. Great experience

I just got back from there a few days ago, went over halloween and to watch the seahawks get screwed over by officials :p My first experience but had a blast. Bourbon is crazy especially during the big events like I went for. I did the ghost tour, and the cemetary tour as well as the swamp tour. They were all interesting but the cemetary tour is probably the most fact based of the 3 and a little drier than the other so if you gotta skip one that'd be the one i'd skip. I found out my hotel was haunted on the ghost tour, got back to the hotel that night all paranoid about the sounds I was hearing after that lol I agree with ugm, be prepared to eat the food is amazing. I did Acme Oyster house, outside the chargrilled oysters which were awesome it was pretty average food. I waited 40 minutes to get in too cause I was told it was a must. Do yourself a favor, if the lines short go in and grab a drink and some chargrilled oysters, couple orders cause one isn't enough, and then leave, don't waste your money on the rest. Even if you're not a seafood guy the oysters are doable, my girl hates seafood and we had to get a 2nd plate cause she wouldn't stop eatin the first one. Save the entree money for later to eat somewhere better. I did Galatoire which I highly recommend, food was insane. Redfish grill was also very good tho the portions aren't very big I had to get 2 dinner entrees but the prices aren't extravagant which is nice. The bread pudding at the end which is their recommended desert is just awesome, get it if you go and definitely do it with the ice cream. Cafe Du Monde is a tourist trap, they got a line up that never ends, day or night there is a line up and cafe beignet had just as good beignets imo...im sure you'll have to do cafe du monde as every tourist makes the stop but after the first time if you want beignets again skip the line and try cafe beignet, less hassle just as good. If you like spicy I highly recommend Kpauls, it isn't cheap but it's crazy good. I asked for extra spicy and it kicked my ass, not much does. If you're gonna party late, there's a few fun spots, sinners and saints is much better at night when you don't gotta eat the food, it's bland food and the service sucks. Worst dining experience of my trip and near life there, just ridiculously bad service but on halloween night a lot of hot chicks showed up ready to party so I imagine most weekends the tourist girls will show up there looking for fun. The cache of being Channing Tatums joint makes a lot of tourist girls show up. I had a few different poboys, my favorites were at killer poboys, there's one at erin rose thats a smaller one but there is a bigger one somewhere else I didn't make it to the other location but if you're in the quarter go there, it blows johnnys and nola poboys outta the water.

Bourbon is always interesting , make sure to hit "The Dungeon" just off bourbon on Toulouse its a great bar , don't wonder off alone stay with at least one other persona and pay attention to whats going on around you.
the cemetery tours are great way to learn a lot about the city , most all the "haunted trips" are the same.
Frenchman street is pretty cool , they always have something going on down there.
The World War II museum is pretty cool as well.
An hour east you have some nice casinos on the Mississippi coast
the swamp tours are generaly slowing down but the bigger ones have a good relationship with the gators and hogs so you'll get to see them feed something unless its been excessively cold for a while the gators will still be out and about..

"Café Du Monde" is a tourist trap but I still like having coffee and breakfast there early in the morning.
Get a Muffuletta and stuffed artichoke from "Central grocery" on Decatur st
"Mothers" is a great restraint on Poydras st at Tchoupitoulas st.
"Restraunt R'evolution" on Bienville st is the best seafood in my opinion but its not cheap
"Drago's" is also good seafood and oysters it on the end of Poydras st

as for the weather , its a crap shoot.!!! It can be 80 degrees one day and 4 the next depending on the cold fronts , on average though by December the highs are still getting close to 70 , lows down into the 40's at night , perfect weather to need a jacket to go to Bourbon street only to have to take it off dancing and lose it only to freeze you balls off later when you got to a deferent bar all sweaty.

Thanks for all the responses guys! Awesome suggestions!

Going there to on the 22 thru xmas! Love it. Been 20 times or so. Do a ghost tour or vampire one. Both good. Jackson square is awesome for art. Mr B's for best barbecue shrimp.

You can hit the west bank Boomtown Casino is fun, also Copelands restaurant is good...Al Copeland who started the Popeye's franchise owns it,very high quality food...

Depends. Are you single or coming with a gf/wife? My advice depends on the answer to that question lol

Nice you guys sound fun together. Walking anywhere on bourbon strip and you'll see tons of places you will just want to walk into and check out. Pat O'Briens is one I remember liking a lot. If you go downtown, F and M's is a cool spot. I remember seeing a whole row of strip clubs on bourbon street but I didn't go inside any.

Awesome! Thanks brotha!

Expect the French Quarter to smell like stale beer and piss.

Would definitely love some suggestions on some good edm clubs, ghost/cemetery tour, swamp tours and def some good places to eat! How's the weather early December? I love packing light lol

born and raised in NOLA..everything everyone suggested is pretty spot on. Hopefully I can add a few different things. Strip clubs..hands down the penthouse club is the best..just off bourbon. Hottest chicks and best atmosphere. Makes all the other clubs girls look like they playing w the JV squad. If not there then Barely Legal isn't bad. If you go there w your girl..the strippers will be all over yall..trust me..I've spent a lot of time there lol. EDM clubs...Metro and Republic is what you're looking for. Ohm which is connected to a nice chill spot call Bar Cadia.. is a good spot too. On Bourbon..Bourbon Heat is the club to go too. DJ there is on point. Razoos is cool too on bourbon but usually crowded. Pat Os is a nice chill spot on Bourbon. The hurricanes and hand grenades will get ya lit. Don't sleep on Frenchman street. A lot of good live music. More of an eccentric..hippie like crowd..but less touristy and more locals. Great place to eat down there on Frenchman is Aldophos..Creole Italian..very old school and authentic joint. Dragos is good seafood and just as good or better oysters than Acme. Red fish grill is good. Cresent City Brewhouse is a nice place that brews all their own beer. K Paul's as mentioned is good. Muriels near Jackson square is a must. If yall like sushi..Rock.n sake is a awesome place with great atomosphere..music blaring the whole time. and a lot of cajun takes on sushi. The dickie Brennans restruant is a local favorite. Mr johns is a must. I'd skip the Emeril places. as far as entertainment...the ghost tours are cool. I haven't met a person from out of town that went on a swamp tour and didn't love it. personally I think it's boring but I've lived a swamp tour my whole life. seeing a gator is like seeing a bird for me. check out clue de Vieux. it's downtown and is a mystery game. you get put in a room and have to find clues that lead to other clues and secret rooms. you have a time limit and the object is to escape the locked room by finding the key the clues lead too. fun times. hope this helped.

as far as the weather goes..I've spent many of December's in shorts and the shirts one day and sweaters and coats the next day. I'd look at the forecast a day or two before you leave and plan that way. ppl around here start breaking out the winter coats when it drops below 60 lol.

After a second friend had their car stolen there within the last year, I pretty much have avoided the place.

That being said, Restaurant R'evolution on Bienville St is amazing as is Emeril's restaurant NOLA on St. Louis St.

Can't help with the clubbing or strip joints, not my thing anymore.

Plenty of great food down here.

Cafe Maspero by Jackson Square is good.
Keep away from the big name chains, the smaller mom and pop local places are all great.

Cafe Du Monde is a must do, long line, but moves fast.
Pat O' Briens is also a must, get the signature Hurricane in a souvenir glass. The piano bar is a nice place to relax.

Lafittes Blacksmith Shop is among the oldest structures in the quarter stop in for a drink, especially if you're a Battle of New Orleans buff. Jean Lafitte, famous, studly pirate, helped Andrew Jackson beat the British. Could Not have won without him.

Plenty to do and see in Jackson Square; Andrew Jackson.

Port of Call for a great burger and Monsoon drink.

Dragons Charbroiled oysters as mentioned are Awesome.

Pascals Manale BBQ shrimp are also Great, not actually BBQ'ed, but cooked in a pan with olive oil, butter, garlic; waay unhealthy, but awesome!

Steamboat / paddle wheel Natchez ride is a nice view of the river and enjoy the calliope. It's a steam driven piano / organ that they play, very cool.

Stay away from the big name hangouts, bubba gump, jimmy buffet margariteville, Tatum Channing's place, any place in Jax Brewery, all overrated, priced and just too touristy.

The dungeon is a pretty cool, albeit scary looking biker bar, super long narrow hallway to get inside.

Get a drink and walk down Bourbon, stopping into any shop or music bar that catches your attention; lots of them.

Stay with the crowds and don't wander off.

Catch a history carriage ride at Jackson Square.

Check out the street performers around Jackson Square, very cool.

Not in the French Quarter, but hit Jack Dempseys for the best seafood of your life. Try the Mac n Cheese as a side!!

There is SOOOO much history and food down here!

Have fun.

Someone mentioned Copelands. It's nowhere near the quarter, but a great place to eat. Get the Bayou Broccali appetizer, even if you don't like Broccali. Also get a Crash and Burn drink for two in a big goldfish bowl,.....great!
