I'm not asking which chest movement is best

I'm asking what chest movements are best "FOR YOU" in terms of building size. I understand that everyone is different and what works for some doesn't work for others.

I personally can't go heavy on any barbell pressing movement with seriously pissing off my shoulders no matter what stretches and warm ups I do so I stick to dumbells and machines.

It seems for me lately that dumbells at a slight incline and a decline machine has been making more notable gains than before (gym doesn't have declined bench)

So what do you find has caused the best growth for your chest

incline bench press...or flat bench(lower the bar below the nipple area)

alternate those 2 between sessions if doing chest twice per week..

that's been my staple and my chest is improved a lot

i pyramid up and go all out on heaviest 1 work set for 5-6reps

I'd really like to credit HEAVY flyes (I do them as the second exercise, typically, and at peak was doing 80x8--arms are not totally extended as it places undue stress on shoulders for me, but maybe elbow is around 45deg?) for taking my chest to the next level. Deep stretch, contract chest first them up, stopping when arms are perpendicular to ground so as not to take tension off the chest itself, then back down with 3 sec+ neg. Rep ranges anywhere from 8-15, but typically 10-12.

Doesn't matter flat or incline--I usually just do whichever I didn't start chest with (i.e. if I did barbell incline first, I do flat fly). I also feel, for me, DB works better than cable or machine.

- Weighted push-ups wide
- Inclined press on smith
- Hammer strength

anything decline....

Simple, but not necessarily easy:

Hammer Strength chest press followed by various sets of modified push-ups.

I think I have made big improvements in my chest over the last year and I have always bench pressed heavy from a young age. Once I lightened the weight and concentrated on form my chest improved. Obviously that combined with all out max weight stuff too. But you definitely don't need to be bench pressing 4+ plates a side to have a big chest. Decline presses and chest dips are excellent exercises for me. Plus any hammer strength machine you feel your chest activate most on just hit that hard.

Very very low incline db or smith machine press.

Flat and very very low incline db stretch/fly. Using a neutral grip. Not really a fly or a press but right in the middle.

well . . .

Strict, heavy weighted dips is what I do for my triceps but it also
greatly stimulates my chest, probably better than any other exercise.

I have zero desire for bigger chest muscles (they sag, look like crap
when you get older) but if I did I would do weighted push-ups, or
decline bb presses, or ‘bench’ presses performed on the floor.

I would avoid ‘standard’ bench press like the plague. They are a fools
errand, you could not pay me to do them. They are riddled with
problems, are nothing more nor less than a giant time bomb waiting
to go off.

Speaking of bench presses . . . a question for all if you don’t mind . . .
do you know of anybody who has injured themselves doing machine
bench presses?

Thanks.

Hammer Strength wide-grip bench press and incline press have always been my favorites.

Decline BB
slight incline db
HS incline

Usually do 2 of those exercises per sesh as my bread n butter... each session ill switch the order of which they are done...

I then have 2 exercises i have been doing the past about year at the end that i beleive def help w that upper shelf on pec...

https://youtu.be/CXB6qKRjUh4 he shows it at 22:40

https://youtu.be/Hc3QTAqSx1E he does it at 8:25 ... he uses it as a delt exercise... i found if u use the ez bar in reverse grip like that on an inclined bench instead of standing up straight it smokesss your upper shelf and front delts... i do chest delt tri on my split so they are the last exercise for chest i do, and kinda tie into the delt work..

Various sets of modified push ups swells my chest up like nothing else. It works for the prison inmates! Hahaha 😂

Incline smith
Incline DBs
Hammer strength equipment I can really feel my chest without hitting shoulders too much also

im a huge fan of slight incline reverse banded bench presses. Allows me to train heavy, but takes some of the weight off the bottom where shoulders and chest are the most vulnerable. I also love hammer strength inclines, dumbbell presses, and smith machine slight incline and decline presses

decline dumbbell press

6 sets decline / 6 sets dips / few sets of cable cable crossovers or pec deck

4 to 8 reps per set to failure on the decline hammer strength
