for me i try to get to the gym and start it within 45min, but sometimes i end up doing somthing before i go and can be like more than a hour, we know the sooner the better, but how long is too late?

Why?

It usually takes me about an hour, because I have to drive to the gym. I would assume the faster the better because you have already gone 8+ hours (in most cases) without any food. I know its not true your muscle starts breaking down 3 hours after a meal, but I would assume long peroids without protein/calories are not the optimal anabolic environment if you are trying to grow? Thats the way I always looked at it.:)

well why do you want to wait around for a while with no pro in you to start to catabolize muscle, so why wouldnt the sooner the better, and isnt cortisol begin to get higher

Well I aint going nowhere before Ive had my coffee and I like to enjoy my coffee if you know what I mean;)

Precontest I'm usually up around 5 or 6am.
I drink coffee and do client-work until about 7:30, then do cardio from 8-9.
So about 2-3 hours.

10-45 mins usually. I too enjoy coffee first and do a little work.

With ECA once I wake up and a sip or two of coffee, I can go for upon waking cardio...That's with pleasure;)

As soon as I can find a freaking recumbent or upright bike because I am so damn starving in the morning, so within 10 minutes I get to the gym or even take a 45 minute walk around the neighborhood. I want my damn first meal so bad when I am prepping!

I get out of bed, go to the fridge, get a low carb energy drink and hop right on my treadmill..

I'm absolutely unable to do anything aside from sitting behind a computer when I wake up... if I have to do cardio, it'll easily take me one hour or more to get me going!

+1
2 cups black is mandatory- not even doing cardio til I get the last drop down.

I wake in the middle of the night and have a frozen protein popcicle that I made before I went to bed (2 scoops whey with just a little water in a bowl and make a thick paste, leave a spoon in there and freeze. Run bowl under a little warm water to thaw enough and BAM!!!) Always head back to bed with a smile on my face.
Back on topic....so I am not really in a fasted 8-12 hr catabolic state having eaten pure protein 3 hours or so earlier but the main key is to have glycogen levels depleted not amino acids. Some will pull the gluconeogenesis card here but be serious, unless your doing an hour or more of VERY high intensity cardio or HIIT the catabolic effect will not be present in the smallest form.

To answer your original question lol.....usually 15-20 minutes after waking.

Not to stray too far off topic or appear to be more
ignorant than I already am but . . . why anybody
would do any physical activity on a empty stomach
is beyond me.

Especially endurance, and especially in the morning
when you have gone the longest without eating.

Do people really think that exercising in a "starved"
condition is beneficial? I believe that when you do this
your body responds by slowing down it's metabolism
to conserve energy because it does not know when the
food will arrive.

This may seem counter intuitive to some but you must
eat to loose weight. Eat before exercising and eat with-
in the first hour of getting up.

I think people are scared they will shrink up if the don't get food in as soon as possible. You're body is in a constant state on anabolism and catabolism, fat usage and fat storage. I think it's kind of weird to say okay this is how long you've been and you need food or else you're going to lose a ton of mass. The body just doesn't work that way... I have never read a single study that says 10-12 hrs of fasting inhibits muscle gain... Much less a study where one makes up the calories throughout the day.

I set my shoes and socks by the bed the night before. I roll out of bed straight onto the treadmill.

for me its only too late when me stomach's growlin for food. then all i wanna do is eat.

well theres def alot of controversy on it, but ive been readin on it a bit, a few people do it, maybe new science, so giving it a go

Usually 20-30 min for me by the time i get out of bed and drive to the gym. Will be getting a bike for home soon so I get get right out of bed and on it right away.

For me it is getting up and heading to the basement and hop on the treadmill.
