Ive been doing it a long time. Ill wake up and scream at the top of my lungs. The first time I think I relized it was I was staying with my brother, at his apartment sleeping on the floor, and screamed and he screamed out me telling me to shuttap that the whole apartment complex could have heard me

since then I lived alone and woke myself up numberous times standing up in my room screaming out the top of my lungs

recently, im living with parents, and they mention it alot and ask what im dreaming of yada yada...I have no idea why I get these...I suspect because im big 250 lbs and cutting hard, the leanest ive been in a long time, over a year.

Ive heard because the neck goes back and cuts off air or something. also heard noises can trigger it.

anyone else have this and what to do about it? tips? etc

i had a training partner back in 2005, he used to get violent in his sleep and punch his wife, and eventually they had to get separate beds. Ive never done this, but I m drenched when I wake up many times, heart has been racing and pumping hard, im thinking from the night terrors. recently ive been doing it a lot and many times i wont know I did it untill the next day when my parents remind me because I dont even remember it sometimes

I do go to a Endo who does my trt nd she is a heart specialist and next time I think i may mention this

I've had it my whole life I don't know why. When it happens my wife will get out of bed and wake me up by shaking my foot so I don't punch her. It gets better when my diet is clean and I exercise a lot. I used to self medicate with weed since it suppresses your dreams but as of late I do not. It also increases during times of stress. Getting out of the house for healthy recreation helps too.

Given your reported severity and impairment, consider a sleep study. A detailed examination of your family history, lifestyle, sleep wake cycle, and "supplements" will be reviewed in addition to the actual polysomnography/other recorded observations during your overnight stay in a sleep lab.

Night terrors are pretty unusual in adults as we don't spend much time in deep sleep. I could ask more questions but the sleep doctor has the actual equipment for the evaluation. Plus, if you are a big guy, a rule out of sleep apnea is usually a good thing.

Do you know what your lipids/hematocrit look like?
Getting those tests might clue you in on possible OSA issues.

These types of parasomnias should be evaluated by a sleep specialist as you can be a danger to yourself or others. Parasomnias are not all that uncommon and I myself have had personal experience with sleep walking. So speak with a sleep specialist.

You may have to lose some weight, get off any doping you might be experimenting with and get some medication that will allow you to get restful sleep.

Certainly sucks, I understand but sadly, there is nothing we can do for you here. This sounds like a combination of a lot of things or perhaps just one needle in that haystack you described.

Good luck.

Do you use Insulin?
Crying out while sleeping can be a sign of Hypo even insulin shock.

Insulin shock can also happen in the middle of the night. In that case, the symptoms may include:

nightmares
crying out in your sleep
waking up confused or very irritable
very heavy sweating
aggressive behavior

I would check Blood Glucose when this happens next.

Agreed…after many years of sleep issues, I finally had a sleep study done to resolve my issues (not related to night terrors). Made me wish I went a lot sooner. Specific to night terrors, certain medications/supplements will cause me to have vivid nightmares.

I'd re-evaluate what supplements/meds/dosages you may have changed prior to the beginning of your nightmare episodes. Also, if you had a recent tragic event that may have triggered PTSD. Its a shot in the dark, as its hard to know, without personally knowing the individual, lifestyle and medication they are on. Coming from 20 years in the Marine Corps, a few of my friends that have regular nightmares are typically due to a few tragic events we lived through…which obviously goes beyond a sleep study. Hope you're able to resolve your issue soon.
