Windows 8 and 8.1 have hidden the Windows Experience Assessment from plain view. It used to be available to reassess by right clicking "My Computer" or "Computer" and selecting "Properties", then you will see something as similar to Windows Experience Index Needs To Be Refreshed" or Unrated...., etc. This was created to assess your computer and adjust certain Windows Operating System properties to enhance your speed and visual experience. This dialog is not available within Windows 8 & 8.1 via those means. This has to be run manually now via command line instead of the previous dialog to enforce a new computer policy or you will have to wait until Windows actually runs the assessment itself. What does this mean? Take for instance you porting your system to an Solid State Drive from a normal Hard Drive and your system will not be immediately optimized. It will not enable TRIM, and other optimizations that mean a huge performance degradation. Well, here is the way to force Windows and ensure you have the correct settings. Create a batch file by means described by the STICKY in this IT forum. Then copy and paste the following to the contents of the file:
WINSAT PREPOP
POWERSHELL Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_WinSAT
PAUSE
Then save the file. Right click the file and select Run As Administrator. It will then run he assessment and give you your readings in the CMD prompt.
