PROs/CONs for living in US

I just saw the thread about what country is best to live in and most of the comments are about US. Feel free to express your opinion about this issue.

I'll start: CON - high tax level

Pro: good infrastructure, access to high level education, good leisure oportunities.

 

[Performance Based]

Mostly all cons

Ridiculous laws in regards to controlling both finance and business

Tax rates the same if not close to most socialist countries yet none if the benefits of socialism

Terrible infrastructure, resembles third world countries in most areas

Terrible public education

Pro like mentioned earlier is some of the best secondary educations in the world through private universities

No vat lol

PROS: America is the home of the brave and the free, maybe im partial because of being in the military myself, my family members serving in every world war there has been. we are the good guys, we are the ones everyone comes running to when they need help. we help them and then they shit on us.

I agree with PMCHRIS. If you perceive the US through an American news view we are the good guys. But the reality is completely diffrent. We have some of the worst school systems on the planet, we have the most unequal division of wealth, and social stratification of any third world country. The problem is a greedy government that has become a industrial military complex. I love America, and stand behind our troops because of the jobs they have to do to keep us safe. But after college and and getting a sociology degree I and most all people in my field have a diffrent view of America. Our social problems are so complex that things will unfortunately get worse before they get better. jmo

He's talking about the typicall American paying taxes, not a multi billion dollar company. Our taxes would b lower if all the corporations paid thier fair share of taxes. One of the greatest benefits of socialism is health care and tax rates. Not to mention a free secondary education. And our infrastructure is falling apart. One of the best examples is Detroit. One of the poorest places on the planet, and it's terrible to see. The town next to mine looks like a bomb hit it, the people are very poor, they don't have heat, food really anything. It's really really sad, and I drive through it everyday on my way to the university. The list goes on and on. If you go to the National Poverty Center web site it will answer alot of you're questions.

We have a d rating for our nations infrastructure. Stateside I have primarily lived in Seattle Dallas and la. All terrible. Here in Dubai we have free ways just for 18 wheelers and forms of commerce.

When you have a similar income please tell me where these loopholes are. We aren't talking theoretical situations with the tax code being fixed. For those of us with higher than average incomes we are fucked over in income tax. Proudly no longer a us citizen.

Education in USA has fallen off because of SOCIALISM and LIBERALISM! We can no longer separate kids by how smart they are, everybody gets trophy. Ever here of the term "trophy generation"? Google it, learn something. Who give this "d rating" of infrastructure you speak of?

Sage, while some of the things you say make a good point, what I bolded is the problem. You get out of college, where they tell you all about the inequities of America, the wealth division, corporations not "paying their fair share". Are you kidding me??? Yes, let's tax the people who employ more so they hire less or drive the costs goods up. If you raise their taxes, it wouldn't lower ours, the gvt would just find more wasteful ways to spend it, that's something they won't teach you in college (btw, I have a BA, so I've gone to college). Higher education is a joke, spend 100k to get a degree that 80% of people will never use in their field of study. Why is it that people think that the people who have a talent that people pay big bucks to see/use, or those who have worked their butts off to develop very successful business' should "pay their fair share"??? Do you realize that if the wealthy didn't invest their money, that many business' couldn't make it. These people not only invest in the country and its business', but they also donate large portions of their profits to charities. Why should a person or a business be penalized (pay higher taxes) for success?

BTW, we pay taxes on EVERYTHING in this freaking country. There is nothing that we don't get taxed on

The "D" rating is given by "experts" and the gvt. I've seen the ratings before, can't remember where. Our roads/bridges are falling apart and they are doing nothing to fix it, just continue to build more. Rather than fixing the infrastructure, they are busy with pet projects for their friends who get them elected. I agree with you on the education and trophy generation, very sad we've come to this.

No offense but your not someone I would ever listen to for tax advice. When people are renouncing their citizenship a to save on taxes do you really think you are even slightly qualified to advise? If you were it wouldn't be free advise you would be charging 1,500 an hour.

Family money of course, don't touch it though. Capital gains tax is minimal, wouldn't have gone for a different citizenship if that was the case

Pro- It is the United States of America... no greater place on earth. Land of the free and home of the brave. You can do ANYTHING here if you put the work it.

Con- Unless about half of our citizens wake up and start basing their voting for political officials based on facts, figures and logic instead of emotions, rainbows, unicorns and unattainable, unsustainable, "feel good" policies... we will continue to lose the "American Way" little by little and hand over our freedoms (and more of our hard earned income) more and more.
