Popped my left hamstring 4 weeks ago deadlifting first rep of 400lb set. I usually do set of 6 to 8 reps and then move up to heavier sets. The floor underneath the rubber matts at the gym where I was working out is uneven and I think that did it.
But anyway I had deep tissue massages and have rested it, when and how should I start to work in with the weights again:banghead:
 
I'm not an expert on this by any means, but about 13 years ago I tore my hamstring during a heavy set of stiff legs. After an MRI, it was determined that the tear was not severe and did not require surgery. My left side of my body was deeply bruised black from the middle of my glutes to my calf. I nursed it like a baby. Within less than 1 month, I was lifting light on it. By 60 days, I was moving heavy weights again. For me, ice, anti inflammatories, light stretching worked wonders. There is no real way to determine when you can lift again, it is up to you and how your body responds. I would take it day by day and once you get back into it, start light and slowly work your way up as your feel comfortable.

Do mobility and massage work immediately. Start incorporating light weight when you have FULL RANGE OF MOTION. Training a short muscle will only lead to more problems.
