I know we had a cool musicians thread a few weeks ago....this could just be a continuation.

What oddball songs do you get a kick out of playing along with?

My gf likes rap, R&B etc....so i wanted to play something that would get her panties all in a bunch. I'd heard Kanye West's Stronger on the radio a few times and thought it was alright.....so I put a guitar track to it. And in the process of figuring out the chords and that tempo shit that goes on.....I ended up loving to play it. I just blast that song on the stereo and use the dirty channel w/ max gain hi 4 mid 8 low 3 and rail away on it.

Now, my gf....thought i was just a goofball, but fucked me anyway....lol

but learning that song was a lot of fun.

what crazy, non-guitar related songs have you guys gotten into and enjoyed?

For those not familier with Kanye...here's the song. learn it, it's frun as hell.

Playing around with Whitesnakes' newest disc, Good to Be Bad. Always liked Coverdale from back in the Deep Purple and early Whitesnake days - the newest album is great in my opinion...

one time i got way too into 'herbal' supplement that i had around, i ended up playing along to tv commercials with my nylon, sitting on a couch,

i should be in one of those 'drug free' commercials, looking like a tard playing guitar. lol

anyways, yeah i thought some commercials had non guitar instruments that sounded interesting. i also like sound tracks, figuring out the last of mohicans theme song (the violin part) and conan the barbarian is fun too.

I play the guitar a little but am not any good. On the other hand, I'm a badass on guitar hero haha.

Really into things by John Petrucci & Paul Gilbert. Loving Racer X lately!

Old Satch, Vai, and Malmsteen stuff is a lot of fun to play a long with. Anything 80's metal really. Hardline has some great riffs.

John Petrucci! WOW

I really only just discovered how good John Petrucci is, and his band Dream Theater formed back in 1985. He is only 2 years older than me so he really started the band young. Says he was at the Berkely School of Music where he met other guys and they formed the band. He dropped out of the college to pursue his dream. He made it!

Here is a great solo by him in a concert. It is from "In the Name of God". They just came out with a great new album last week. It is available for streaming on Napster. Ive been listening to the new one all weekend.

The past few months, I've been on a U2 and The Cure kick with a new electric guitar. :headbang:

My daughter that is in high school is taking lessons now, been playing for about 1 year. Got her first electric guitar this past November. A Fender Stratocaster. She is enjoying it.

What did you get?

After incessant browbeating by a friend to ditch my original beginner guitar of 17 years, we went to Guitar Center and I picked up a dark red Epiphone with low action, an ebow, and a smaller amp. Never had any lessons b/c I believe and push the brain's ability to undergo neuroplasticity and prefer learning solo.

I've been playing for 20 years, so I can sit down with my guitar and figure out pretty much anything. I like taking genres that don't use guitars - rap, pop, etc. - and figuring those songs out on guitar.

In my opinion, Robert Smith of the Cure is a very under rated guitarist.

Have you tried doing any of Putrucci's solos yet? There are a good number of people on youtube that have recorded some darn good covers. If you do one, post it up on here. Id like to see it. I think it is really cool to see amateurs playing stuff so intricate. Some amazing people out there.

Check out these young guys! WOW!

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXkahMFT-a8"]Jam รั่วๆ In Am By Ball Erato , TopCT , NutCT - YouTube[/ame]

These three can all play really well I think. They cant be much over 22 years old, maybe younger.

Several years ago Guitar World magazine did an article on Robert Smith, and the article was titled "Mope Springs Eternal" LOL

Every time I pick up my guitar I go through a medley of Van Halen Songs to warm up to

I played guitar when I was younger, stopped, picked it up again when I was in my early 20's because I went through a hardcore Van Halen phase, and then stopped again. I've wanted to get back into it and I think the only thing that would get me consistent again would be buying a new guitar. I always wanted to have a 7-string Ibanez so I could play songs that bands in the heavy metal/nü-metal genre play.

Look around on reverb.. find a good used one.. I bought from zzounds and paid it off over 6 months(no interest) bought an esp guitar and later a EVH 5150iii el -34 50 watt amp.. absolutely sick

When I was in High School I played my guitar non stop. One day I’m in the kitchen playing this melody on my guitar while my Mom was cooking dinner, and I was stumped on where I picked that melody up from. Then it hit me. It was the background music in one of my Mom and Dad’s porno movies I watched when they weren’t home. Hahaha I’m laughing right now just thinking about it. I wasn’t allowed in their hidden stash of porno movies. 😂🤣

Musicians out there, how do people take out just the guitar track of a song so they can play along with it like this? Lots on youtube do it. I think it would be nice if I could help my daughter do this on some of her favorite songs. Id like to know how to go about it.
