Im going in for a sleep study, finally. Doctor told me I needed one 8 years ago, but I should wait to have the surgery to fix my deviated septum in case I broke my nose again.

Now is the time. BTW im fit and 195 lbs, Ive had sleep problems my whole life, the nose doesn't help it though

Just wondering, how resolving your guys issues changed your quality of life? What can I expect. Im going in expecting Ill need to fix my nose and have those plastic things put in my throat.

A few times a week I consciously wake my self up gasping for air, sometimes 5,6,7 times in a row. My girl tells me I stop breathing fairly often, and I snore like crazy. Super dry mouth, etc. I generally feel tired

Im looking foward to resolving this, a little nervous about surgeries though. As I get closer I cant help but wonder how this will make me feel, or change my life. The Dr. said after I heal Ill slept like I never slept before. Ill wake up feeling like a normal person and finally have a understanding of just how tired i really was.

Just hoping to get some insight with those who have had similar problems.

Best thing I ever did! I use to fall asleep at stop lights on my way home from work, snore like a monster, got up 3 to 4x a night to pee....

Now I put my Darth Vader mask on and sleep soundly and only need 6 hours of sleep a night. I might only get up once a night to use the bathroom and when I drink coffee I actually feel it.

Go get it and improve the quality of your life and anybody that has to listen to you snore.;)

Im hoping to be able to not use the machine, but I may have to use it for a while before they ok a surgery. My mom had one (also normal if not under weight) and she didnt like it.

I know people who use the mask at night and they swear by it. I use nasal strips and they seem to help. It could be placebo but it works for me.

how do you know signs of syptoms ? I feel Tired all the time i can probably sleep all day if i wanted to . I thought it could be my gear and work , but i only work 5 hours a day .

I have a buddy at work that says it was the best thing he ever did. he used to be miserable and tired all the time. now has a cpap machine and he sleeps uninterupted and only needs 5-6 hours a night. He said it got rid of all his sinus drainage issues and sore throats.

I think I need to do a sleep study but I dont want to spend the money.

Hmmm, glad to see your following through with this! You will not enjoy the sleep study, and if you do have OSA, you most certainly will not enjoy the follow up as they set you for your titration ( the amount of O2 pressure you'll need) try too relax and calm your mind with both of these sittings.

I have too get back into class, and tell more of my experiences ....blood values, hormones and such.

Glad too see your doing this!

well i put mine off for quite a time too . but not quite 8 years ..
ill put it to you the way my ear nose throat dr put it "your loosing brain cells
at the rate of a hard core drug user " maybe a slight exaguration on his part maybe not .. that was all i needed to hear ...

i had the septoplasty opperation at 34 years of age .. i truely wish i did it 10 years earlier ...

as for the bipap .. i love it and it has been a vast improvement
so much so in the couple times in the past 5 or 6 years if the electricity
was out due to a storm i didnt even bother going to bed .. its just that much difference

finding the right mask is BIG .. fyi its good for sex drive too:p

I have been using a cpap for a while now and it makes a big difference for me when sleeping and feeling rested. I had surgery for it before and it worked for a while but then i had to go back to the machine.

Ive been using a cpap for four years. I use to think i was dying in my sleep. Snoring badly and urinating 3-4 times per night. Met a new girl and i couldnt spent the night because she couldnt sleep and was afraid i was gonna die in her bed. She demanded i see a dr. I went in for my sleep study a couple weeks later. I was so bad two hours into my study the nurse woke me up and fitted me for a cpap. I went 2.5 minutes without breathing. I did not ave the second overnight stay. It was and is a life saver. I have energy not moody and making better gains in the gym. My quality of lofe is much better. I was tired all the time just figured it was age no it was lack of quality sleep. Youll love it

bro cjc and ipam just change my sleep pattern unbelivablely ! in a positive way

Thank you=) It was actually a few posts I had read by you that inspired me to finally go through with this

Im hoping its good for the sex drive! I just hope it gives me more energy and what not. The only reason I havent done this earlier is because the dr said if I broke my nose again it would be that much harder to reconstruct. Whether thats the extent of my problem, I do not know. Likely not, because I snored as a child also.

I have been using a cpap for a while now and it makes a big difference for me when sleeping and feeling rested. I had surgery for it before and it worked for a while but then i had to go back to the machine.

Same thing happened to my mom. She had her uvula cut off and the things put in her throat. Eventually she started snoring again.

I pee once or twice. Generally because I drink a bunch of water before bed, because If not I get up thirsty. This is because I only breathe through my mouth. So If I drink water I get up to pee, if I dont drink water before bed I wake up thristy.

My girl has gotten used to it, but every so often we have company. He friends will sleep in the bed, and they get all stressed out and wonder how she can sleep with me.

i was just giveing you a hard time .. but in all seriousness it will give so many improvements in so many areas things will definatly cary over

its not super easy getting used to sleeping with it but commit yourself to it
if the doc says you need it .. the bennifits are soooo worth it

not to mention sleep apnea kills ... reggie white died from it .. just last year one of the guys on the bearing sea crab fishing show and countless unknown others

make sure you ask questions. I had a sleep study and found that I had severe sleep apnea. was sent to a pulmonary specialist who deals with it from the angle of its effects on the heart. she put me right on a machine. Huge difference made life alot better accept for the mask at night.

fast forward 5 years. Just went to a doctor because of allergy symptoms. I've never had allergies. She looked me over and told me that because my tonsils are so large and that there is a pollop in my nasal cavity that if I had them removed I could essentially cure my sleep apnea. no more machine or mask at night. so for me once harvest season is over (I farm) those suckers are gone.

point is just make sure to ask questions.

It will honestly be one of the best things you've ever done for yourself if you do have it. I've have a CPAP for 5 years and cant sleep without it.

I used to sleep in every class and fall asleep driving to school and now, though I may be tired, I can stay awake.

Huge difference in quality of life. I believe I only stopped breathing on average of 17 times per hour which is considered moderate.

Well, I just got home from the test. Was definetly a shittier experience than I anticipated.

First off I made sure to stay up a little later the night before by a few hours, than I had work saturday morning. Came home and my girl asked me to take a nap, I said no, she said Ill wake you up in 15. Of course I woke up 3 hours later, pissed.

Second, I was under the impression that I would sleep there as I slept at home, which is in my boxers, I have a hard time sleeping in clothes. FIgured they are nurses, etc. It wouldnt be weird. Well, It was weird. I asked the lady if anyone sleeps in their underwear, she said no. Ok, had to have the woman bring me some clothes from home, luckily I live not to far, but the test was downtown downtown Chicago, so not far is still half hour for a few miles.

So I couldnt sleep. Didnt realize how many electrodes theyd have on me, jeeze. I usually roll around alot to get comfortable, nope not here. I swear they came in the room like 20 times to adjust things.

Oh well, glad its over. Looking forward to the results.

I had my tonsils (which were huge) and adenoids removed and I am 100% cured. You should go see an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) doctor and see what he /she says. Im glad I did, instead of listening to my idiot GP who wanted to either put me on cpap or not treat me at all.

yea, the study sucks.... i had my surgery 12-14 years ago. had the throat and nose done at the same time. can't say i jump out of bed refreshed. but much better then when i would get up and try to come back to life and not want any one to talk to me for the first hour. i used to snore even while sleeping on my belly. now there is some when i first go to sleep then nothing the rest of the night.

I had my tonsils and adenoids removed as a kid, so those arent a issue. The ENT is the one that recomended I have surgery to fix my deviated septum and recommended a sleep study. They actually did a out patient procedure where they stuck electrodes in my nose and burnt the lining out so it creates more breathing space. She said it would eventually grow back, and it did.
