Looking for some good kitchen knives. Particularly a 8" chef knife. Not looking to just buy the most expensive knife out there but a good quality one for a decent price. Thanks

I used Wusthof German knives but they are the most expensive ones. For home use and its cheaper but good quality knives are Mundial. Kind of like Rolls Royce knives.

Thank you for the reply. Also looking for a good sharpening steel. Dont know if there are certain brands that are better than others

For sharpening I used 2 things. Flat stone non oil base for sharpening and diamond steel for fine sharpening.

Get a ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS made in Germany.

Any one of the 8" chef knives by Zwilling will last you the rest of your life if properly taken care of.

I have Wusthof and Henckels. The guy who post the thread doesn't want expensive knives. Germans makes the best knives in the world.

Actually I found a couple henckels for around 30-50 $. I thought that was really reasonable. I just didn't know if it was worth buying one for over 100 $ a knife for someone that doesn't cook for a living. But I don't want to buy a cheap knife and not be happy either

There are two lines of Henckels. The nice line has two men stamped on it, the cheap line has only one man stamped on it. The high end line is worth buying, the cheap line isn't IMHO.

I would buy Shun knives over anything listed thus far anyway. Asians have been making blades for thousands of years. I'd trust them to know how to make a nice knife.

I've owned Henckels, Mundial, Mercer, and I am currently loving the shit out I my Globals!

I spent $1200 on my Global knives but I use them on a daily basis for work. If you don't want to spend a ton of money and just want some decent knives for the house then look into Mercer knives. Cheap and an ok knive for beginners or just for the house.

I buy everything from here....

You won't find better pricing anywhere.

Global knives are uncomfortable. I dont like the handles of global. German knives are more comfortable with nice ergo grip.

See I am the opposite. I hate German knives! Lol. Teu aren't comfortable to me at all. I get bad blisters from my Henckels. I only keep them bc they hold sentimental value. They were my first set and passed down to me from my older brother.

I don't like knives with bolsters.

Very much agree with this statement. I also use Wustof. I have a whole set, but you really only need 1 good chef's knife and you can get one for $40-50. They also come with a life time warranty. A chunk of one of my handles came off 5 years after I got the knife, I called them, they said mail it to us and we'll send you a new one. They certainly did.

I use pro cook professional knives. Forged metal, riveted handle, 10 year guarantee. Great knives indeed.
