Im going to have my left hip re-surfaced within the next couple of months.

Has anybody here had this done?

What was the recovery like? And is leg training afterwards still possible with machines - hack squats and leg press?

Im really hoping I can still do light full range squats and walking luunges again, once its healed up.

I don't think anyone here has a resurf, there are a few guys with THRs, including myself, I was going to get a resurf in 2003 but my femoral neck was just to messed up and I did not qualify, I have a metal/metal thr, and I have pushed it to the limit, lol, I will put it like this, with a resurf you will retain much of your bone structure and will not have a stem placed down your femur, so would think your rehab would be a little easier than a thr, you should be able to have a very good activity level after you heal and rehab, just not every orthopedist is doing resurfs, who are you going to? are you in the states or uk? Schmalzried did my thr and would have done the resurf.

Hey Mate....

Im in New Zealand, there is not many surgeons who do it here. But Im only 37 so they are telling me its the best option for my age. They also warned me it wont last forever and that in 10 or so years I will prob end up with a THR.

Im guessing heavy squats are a thing of the past - but hoping once recovered I can get back to using machines and maybee deadlifts with some decent weight - even if it means doing 15-30 reps on everything.

I found a re-surfacing forum but not many bodybuilders of my weight on there.

Im trying to drop as much size as I can before surgery to make rehab easier.

I had a BHR on my left hip and will have my right hip done here in about a month or two. I don't do squats anymore in order to preserve the live of my "implant". Had no issue with doing hip sled or any other type of leg movements.

The surgery and rehab isn't that bad at all. The post-op surgery pain was a helluva lot less than the pain I was in prior to my surgery. Just stick to your physical therapy protocol and do not deviate and you will be back to normal in a short amount of time.
