Hi guys , for who that have this injury , I would ask if it''s normal have still pain in my forearm when I train and I don'T succeed to feel my bicep work during a normal Curl. Thanks

How was the tendon reattached? Because it matters on the healing time.

I had a full rupture and had it attached with stainless steel sutras. I was curling full weight after 6 months and won a show in 9 months post surgery at 40 years old.

I have broken my bicep with deadlift mixed grip, last set of 5x5 with 190kg:p

Have seen many guys do this over the years. Unless you're a competitive powerliter, there is zero point in using a mixed grip. Just use straps... I'm not saying this to you, Mountolympus, just kind of talking out loud in general..

Just did this to mine w/ 315...my max is around 620 :(

Lesson learned.

Mountolympus:

I'm only 5 weeks post surgery (I think) and not allowed to train with the arm, but I don't have any weird pain unless I do something stupid. I do, however, have complete numbness in the back of the thumb and across half the back of the hand, as well as the thumb muscle (on the palm), and radiating a little bit into the forearm.

Mine was fixed using a button, screw, and sutures. Was done by a sports medicine orthopedic specialist and in his words "it's a bit overkill, but I guarantee it'll never tear again." Still not going to do mixed grip tho :p But at 12 weeks post-surgery, the tendon itself is around 90% strength.

I'm 6 weeks post-op from the same injury. Mine was fixed with a button though. you guys have me concerned now, which is considered the best method. My doctor seems pretty confident in the newer buttons being alot better then they were in the past. While PT leads me to believe my arm could fall off at any second.

And thankfully I did mine at work. Embarrassingly it was picking up a cabinet that weighed only a hundred pounds at best. But basically it was a one arm deadlift from the floor with an underhand grip. I've lifted more weight than that thousands of times before, still not sure what went wrong that morning.

This feels like a newbie question. For the guys who have had this, for those first few months where you cant do much of anything with the arm do you continue to train the good side? or just let it go and bring back up when you can really train.

At this point i've just been training legs a couple times a week and a lot of cardio. I needed to get serious about cardio anyways.

I'm still training good side and legs, but I had just finished dieting hard and don't want to put much fat on and start at a disadvantage. Plus, I figure it'll be a good gauge of where I need to be with the weak side when I'm able to start up again. Only training 3x a week though...have enough life stressors going on at the moment and figure 3x a week is enough to maintain.

I had a buddy that didn't train at all and got most of it back in 6 weeks (ended up losing 25-30lbs before starting again), was making PRs in 8-10 weeks--probably because he was so hungry to put the size back on.

Huh. At 9 months I was 100% recovered. I only really had a small bit of pain the week after surgery then nothing really after that. It did take a few months after the injury to regain the mind muscle connection. If they don't get the tendon tight enough and it has slack in it or you stretched it out what your describing can happen.

Tears

Quite a few mixed grip tears in this compilation. I know a guy that tore his that way. Like some of the other have said, just go overhand with both hands and use straps.

I ruptured mine trying for a new deadlift max (mixed grip) in 2012. Worst injury of my life. It took 2 surgeries and over a year before that arm felt mostly normal. I still have a reduced range of motion with pronation and supination (rotating the forearm at the elbow so the palm is facing down or up).

I tore mine a few years back. I was doing a goofy thing in a rock climbing gym. I had it repaired with a button. 1 year later it was stronger then ever with zero pain. It was such a success, I sort of want to tear the other one now to fix some long running tendentious - okay, not really.

What I learned from the Dr. is this typically happens when the arm is fully extended, like in a deadlift. It's not weight as much as the mechanics. If you are fully extended with just the right angle in the wrist and shoulder, it doesn't take much to tear it.

For guys that tore it doing deadlift's, what it palm up or palm down? For mixed grip, which hand was it?

My theory is, it's not the mixed grip that causes it.

Watching that video above, most the arms that popped were palm up.

A supinated grip (underhand with the palm up) adds a tremendous amount of strain to the distal biceps tendon attachment site on the radius. Mixed grip absolutely causes it, even with good form. A double overhand grip doesn't have nearly the same risk in terms of arm injuries.

Palm up
For me, surgery was a complete failure , I have lose strenght ( I do struggle to move a little cabinet ) and I have pain when I use my bicep in gym

I'm about 4 weeks post surgery with a button repair, feels good for the most part. I have continued to train the non injured side and legs and will be starting a Test E/EQ cycle tomorrow, as I've read studies that show EQ increases collagen synthesis by as much as 370%. Hoping to cut my recovery time in half!

Yep...mine happened with only 315 on the bar and my max is ~620ish.

I'm not too beat up about it since it's my only tear in 11 straight years of lifting intensely, but the "time-out" really sucks because training hard is my therapy / antidepressant. Oh well, life moves on, at least it's fixed!
