Beast..

I always wondered how he kept his feet so close together and kept balance.

Now I see that he spreads his knees wayyyy out when he goes down.

Going to give that a shot. At this point I'm squatting 435x10 really deep but wider stance. I want to preserve my knees aas much as I can so if I drop weight and do it like him maybe that will help

The Tom Platz of Abs is still blasting quarter reps on the leg press at 48

very cool to see him still going strong!

That man is built to squat. Both structurally and mentally.

Wow, looks like 8 plates on each side? If that is right then he is doing 765 pounds there for multiple reps with no suit, narrow stance, and deep. Very impressive for someone his age, hell any age! Just looked back, no wraps either!

bumper plates

Always a favorite growing up watching him compete but watching him squat at 62 YO is making my knees hurt. My knees and back are so fucked up after all the years of heavy squats, it aint happening anymore, especially rock bottom like that....respect.

I have always been inspired by Tom Platz. Use to squat heavy until I herniated a disc. Had to work around it but now at 64 I do alright with 315 for reps. Have to admit I only squat about every 5th leg workout. No way I would go for thirty reps like that, I say that is impressive!

bumper plates

Yeah I know, but all the gyms I lifted at had bumper plates that size that were 45 lbs each. Maybe those are the metric plates that seem to have even more rubber?

looks like he has 4 45lb bumper plates per side

so yeah, probably the metric

Tom Platz is a god and a legend, just as much for what he can still do today as what he could do back in his prime. After all the heavy squatting that he did, I am in awe that he can still go that heavy for high reps.

Hell, I am in awe that he still has the shoulder flexibility to be using the straight bar for back squats at his age. I still squat, but I use the safety squat bar now, a much better option for older lifters and those of us who have messed up shoulders from too much benching and other abuse.

He was intense for sure. One of the hardest training guys I had ever watched train on videos

Tom Platz is awesome....no doubt about that.....but 1986 called him and asked if it could have its tie-dye workout pants back.....:D

how do your knees hold up for that long? i guess good form helps, but still...
