For those of you taking Metformin for whatever reason I was wondering if it ever upset your stomach or gives you horrendous gas??

I take 500mg 3x a day basically with my breakfast , lunch and dinner , I worked my way up slowly only taking 250mg with breakfast for a couple days then 250 with lunch for couple days then with dinner , then adding in an additional 250 every few days and didn't have any issues at all but if seems like every now and then I'll get bad cramps and the most gawd awful smelling gas. I pretty much follow a low carb diet get just around 100 grams a day now and even if I eat the same things every once in a while I get the gas.

Now if I have a big carb meal say pizza or pancakes or something I'll take an extra 250mg with that meal and most of the time I'll get a little stomach bloat but not the bad gas , I've been chalking that up to the carbs more than anything.

Do any of you guys ever have this issue??

Am I maybe taking to much considering I'm on a low carb diet??

It'll pass in time. Your microbiota (gut bacteria) is getting rearranged, if you will, for the better.

Try taking in some type(s) of fermented foods and prebiotic types of foods as well. This should help influence the transitional change.

While you're at it. Don't be hesitant to throw a few grams of citrulline in the mix a few times per day. Feed the need of the ole Krebs.

I add citriluine mallate to my intra workout shake (10g) is that the citriluine you're talking about??

I eat Kimchi about once a week but take a pack of Lacinex once a week or so as well.

What I do is 500mg with meals of 75 or more carbs currently while dieting, which is a few days per week at the moment. I'll take it every day when eating more but again not with every meal, only the higher carb meals. While dieting I don't see the need to use it on low carb days myself. Never really had the gas issue but then again I have gas generally based on what I eat lol but I don't believe it got any worse after starting the metformin.

I have heard the XR/ER extended release versions usually avoid the GI distress associated with metformin. I haven't personally tried it myself-so this is more of a question to you, Stewie.

I agree. I get stomach issues when I first go on it so i start low, but after a few days and ramping up the dose to 750mg, it eventually goes away.

Maybe a week or so? Something like that and then I'm fine the rest of the time I'm on it.

Have you noticed having less energy/more fatigue since being on metformin?

I also take met (1000mg per day) on a low carb diet and am starting to think *maybe* its due to the metformin.

No significant difference in terms of gastrointestinal discomfort between Metformin and Metformin XR. However, there are other advantages to taking the XR version. I'm still researching that though, so can't go into details.

Have you measured your blood glucose levels? Also, after what duration of taking Metformin does the fatigue appear? Hours, days, weeks?

I'm taking the same amount with no issues. I have a log at AnaSci stating the other things I'm taking with it. I'm taking it because of the slin amounts and receptor issues associated with insulin. For the record when there's slin involved it does next to nothing to block those carbs and the nutrients they carry from landing where they belong.

maybe low b12?

i have an injectable preparation of b vitamins incluing b12

I have tried 2 runs with Metformin and for me the stomach issues (gas, loose stools, poor appetite) get worse over time so both times I've aborted the experiment after 2-3 weeks. I haven't tried starting really low (like 250mg) and working my way up over 3-5 weeks. I have an iron gut but for me it certainly does a number on my GI.

I haven't noticed any fatigue at all , i do take double my daily Vitamin and extra B-12 (oral).

I've been taking MK-677 and just double my TRT dose but other than that I feel fine energy wise and the only energy sups i take is a cup of "bullet proof" coffee in the morning and a 200mg caffeine tablet pre workout

I get the shits if using metformin with carbs, and this is the extended version. I like using it during low carb periods when dieting, works perfect then and little to no gastric discomfort.

I take 500 with breakfast and 500 with dinner. No issues whatsoever. If im planning a cheat meal, I'll have one with that meal.
I also eat a lot of raw vegetables, fermented foods (raw sauerkraut, kombucha that I make), am particular about getting a variety of foods (nutrients, enzymes), and being picky about the source and quality of these foods. Have a healthy gut to begin with, and make sure to supplement with B12, as metformin can deplete this

Gotcha, just curious.

I use 500mg Morning and 500mg Dinner with NO issues, I started at that dose and have been using this protocol for over a year now.
