Changes in the Bodybuilding Culture since the 80s

Nebula was my favorite, can see it in the background here. That streamline I have never seen but it looks even better. Certainly hold more weight.

This is looks like the one I used for many many years. Dont see them anymore.

This is their vertical leg press I loved too. Much less weight needed for this!

I think you’re spot on with it not being made by bodybuilders and the like. it’s all about cheap, mass production so they can sell in bulk to chain fitness clubs. It’s more profitable to supply a planet fitness with generic, cheaply made machines that fat housewives will barely use. I’ve heard arsenals equipment is poor quality. The industry is saturated today with quantity over quality from the competitors to the gyms, the equipment, etc.
I talk about it often but I’m lucky enough to have access to a lot of Nautilus, Flex, etc.

Lucky for me there are companies like Williams Strength in Lexington, SC, as well as myriad others, who make some genuinely bulletproof, rock solid equipment that blends right in with all the old school red Nautilus. Our gym owner spares no expense providing us with the best. Unless it's custom built, you won't see anything in that gym less than 20 years old

Roommates Jim Hellwig aka The Ulitmate Warrior, and Sting at the very start of their wrestling career circa 1985.
“Becoming Warrior,” premieres Thurs, 9pm on VICE TV and Crave Canada.

My gym has a version of this that you can make unilateral as well; surprisingly heavy sled by itself but great lp

What’s crazy is anytime I see a piece of equipment posted I can probably go into my gym and use it. If Ron Partlow still did mutant on a mission I think he would love it.

Yeah, ive seen those but never used one. They looked nice. Think it was Nebula?

Wow, what a line up!
Is it that tough these days? Most of the top guys in that competition eventually turned pro.

EXACTLY! EVERY guy in that line up eventually turned pro and that's when they weren't handing them out!!

I know this has been said before, but turning pro was actually a big deal then. Matt Mendengall, Rory Leidelmeyer...etc...

Now it is almost easy.

Here in Japan they had the Hide Yamagishi & Iris Kyle pro qualifier last weekend with five new pros. None of them has any business with a pro card imo.

Edgar Fletcher never did, not matter how many times he tried. Incredible.

Oh wow! Somewhere in my head I had him as a pro. That is incredible!!

I had forgotten about this thread (hadn't clicked on it, but have seen that's it's lively). I just put up a post on IG about this topic.
