Blood pressure meds

This is a far out option but it works for me. However, as a disclaimer…I am younger (30yo) and can do cardio. Possibly better looking as well (just assuming) joking aside …

I had good success with using vasoblast by granite supplements. Vaso drive is amealpeptide which can help reduce blood pressure as it did for me. I started with two scoops a day generally full serving in the AM on training days I would wait to take the two scoops preworkout.

This brought my bp down on avg 14pts. Even during a blast cycle

I take metroplol it’s a beta blocker. My blood pressure only spikes when my anxiety or stress is high and it really helps keep me a bit more chilled out. But what medication you can take can depend on what’s causing your blood pressure to be high. I also take garlic and natural diuretics

I started here before Telmisartan. I had the dry cough side effect. Had to stop taking it. Too bad, cause it worked pretty well.
Yea I had a dry cough, mine wasn't to bad. I have bad allergies any way so I was kind of use to it.

You can't really go wrong with telmisartan or valsartan. Both are very similar in effect but when you weigh everything up (researched extensively) telmisartan is generally better. I take 80mg telmisartan daily.

Hey guys I know this thread is a few months old but it's an important topic I'd greatly appreciate help on. I've got high blood pressure and it's been something I've been working on the past several months to try dodging medication and do it myself. I'm currently 270 down from 285 at my heaviest and aiming toward 235-245 for my hopeful stopping point. Was starting muay thai classes for cardio improvement but home issues have halted that for the past several weeks. Anyway, aside from my bodyweight, trt thickening my blood which I donate to manage, my only other factor is stress. I try to mitigate that but between work, managing home improvement projects, and this wonderful political climate, fuck me, trying to meditate isn't doing shit...

Anyhow the doctor recommended a diuretic called hydrchlorothiazide, or lisonopril if I didn't want the diuretic. I did some Googling and the thiazide can potentially have ED side effects supposedly plus with all the bodybuilders that have health issues or pass from diuretics during competition that option freaks me out. I know I'm a comparative fatass but I was leaning toward lisinopril option because it expands and softens the blood vessels all which don't sound like bad things, and it shouldn't cause ED. I've seen it mentioned a couple times here so I think that's how I'll go but I'd appreciate input. I'm not the type to take drugs unless absolutely necessary and I plan to get off the shit as soon as I can get my bodyweight down and back to full activity. My blood work is good, cholesterol is fine, hdl ldl triglycerides etc. I'm working on raising the good one with more fish oil supplements.

I just want to be able to continue to train hard and not feel the artificial suppression from a drug, and have sex without worrying about issues or taking other drugs to fix this drug etc etc etc. My hopes of deadlifting 800 and log pressing 400 might be gone but I will still get to 700 and 350 at least in the next couple years. Who knows maybe 800/400 will still happen it'll just take longer. Just have to wait for old man strength to kick in haha.

For me heart meds/bp meds are a bit tricky....I love Bystolic, but I can't take it because after about 5 days the meds metabolites build up in my system and I start having a allergic reaction (turn bright red like a tomato, feels like my skin is on fire, etc..) But the first 5 days are great, perfect pulse, perfect Bp. Instead of Bystolic I take 20mg of lisinopril/day and 250mcg of digoxin a day. The digoxin controls my heart rate, and the lisinopril keeps the Bp perfect. Last time I check 118/74. I take the digoxin to control the speed of my heart due to damage from a aortic disection (mechanical valve and artery graft). I get ZERO sides from the Lisinopril. They also make a combo tab of lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide for those times of the year you might be feeling a bit watery. The combo pill comes in 20/12.5. Hope this helps. But if you are not allergic to beta blockers like me, Bystolic would be my number 1 choice.

Thanks pumpkinhead thats super helpful info. I'm hesitant to on the beta blockers because the doctor says that type will actually limit the ability of your blood pressure to rise, like it's ability during training or running etc. I think the betas are very effective, but the above plus I've read they cause ED more than others I'm trying to stay away from if at all possible.

The personal report on lisinopril is very good to hear though.

As for ED..yea that I can't speak on, can never stay on bystolic for that long to find out. lol. But you are correct, when I did take it could never get my heart rate over 115, even doing intense cardio...I also found it made me retain far more water then lisinopril...now that being said, that could be because i was allergic to it... but if you are just looking for a lower BP with minimal sides, lisinopril would be my go to drug.

Telmisartan at 40mg did a nice job for me but still wasnt enough as I was 135-85 at times.

It came with zero side effects which is great but I don’t experience any of the other benefits purported and shared in this thread.

I had the option of increasing to 80mg
or adding Nebivolol and opted for the latter as I’m on GH and my RHR was creeping up to the mid-90’s.

As crazy as it sounds, adding only the starter dose of 2.5mg (5-10mg is typical), my RHR dropped 20 points I crap you not so I’m clearly a hyper-responder so good for me. :)

Nebivolol, like Telmisartan, is almost in a sub-class of its own - as it also supposedly comes with it several general and very heart-healthy benefits, and next to no sides.

I feel good about taking both as I feel these are “healthy” meds (if there is such a thing), sort of like Metformin in a way.
I had a similar experience

I take bystolic 10mg and telmisartan 40mg. Love it. No sides, just feel great. Bystolic is a cardio-selective beta blocker, up to the 10mg dose. So no ED. Also never experienced the inability of my BP to rise in certain situations. Like when training or if i get severely pissed off i can tell its higher than normal.

Telmisartan!

And good for wood too. A side bene.

The Telmisartan appears to do the same thing as lisinopril, though via a different route. Do you guys have to do or take anything to counter the risks from high potassium levels?

If lisinopril doesn't help me out or I get the obnoxious cough the doc said like 5-10% of people get, I'll ask for this as my next step. Seems well reviewed here.

^ It’s my understanding they often times when prescribed Telmisartan, one is also prescribed HCTZ at a mild dose as a diuretic to assist w this.

A buddy of mine I deer hunt with asked what my options were on prescription blood pressure meds and which were better and if there were any other options. I know some of you guys take them and have been through several with different results and side effects so I figured I'd as your personal preference on the.

he is 48 years old , retired from the only job he ever had. May of 2020 he was 328lb and didn't work out AT ALL had a very seditary job and his blood pressure was 150/95 and high cholesterol (268-LDL , 32-HDL , 279 Triglyceride) , so he started eating better and walking 30 min a day.
currently his is at 210lbs eating a 33%/33%/33% macro split diet at 2300 calories and has basically plateaued but he is happy here. He walks 20 min after breakfast , 20 after lunch and 20 in the evening after dinner , he is on 15mg/ED test cyp , 2iu/EDHGH , 10mg/ED Cialis. Now his cholesterol is down to 136-LDL , 39-HDL , 86-Triglycerides but his blood pressure is still high at 142/88 and 91bpm , his cardiologist is concerned that it hasn't come down more and wants to put him on low fat very low sodium diet and BP meds. His diet while reasonably higher in fats is very clean , he has a farm so 95% of his meat (chicken/eggs/beef) is true grass fed free range and added fats are from avocado and grass fed butter and olive oil , carbs are mostly fruit and veggies and a little oats and rice.
he can't do and HIIT cardio due to two bad knees from a car accident (walking the 30 min is tuff)

so if he does need a blood pressure med what would you guys suggest , or what sups can he try before?? I reall want to help the guy because he has honestly busted his ass to lose the weight and wants to keep improving his life , he's excited to have a double knee replacement schedule when he turns 50 so he can be more active.
Many different BP meds I tried a couple that made me feel horrible before clonidine helped and has kept my bp much better than before and I deal with hypertension and anxiety it was a perfect fit for me but the doctor will get you a med that fits your needs
