Excessive Hiccups for over 24 hours now

Hey guys. It’s been over 24 hours and my hiccups are driving me insane. They haven’t left for more than maybe 20 mins at a time.

I’m not on any orals, just test and mast.

Any ideas?

Is it because I am overdoing my Betaine HCL supplementation?

Have your doc prescribe you Baclofen. Do you have GERD or Acid Reflux?
Are you on any medications? Prednisone?
I've read a report somewhere that AAS could cause Hiccups as well. Baclofen usually works, Sometimes Gabapentin or Lyrica could work as well.
If nothing works, do an endoscopy and check if you have a hiatus hernia.

Irretractable hiccups can be triggered by many other things though. I would start with 10 to 20mgs of Baclofen as soon as you get the hiccups, in most cases that should work.

Have you had Covid recently?

I have dealt with this unfortunately.

Here's what has worked:
-Chlorpromazine 25mg 3x/day Note: this can raise prolactin so keep an eye on that. Use until hiccups subside for 7 days. You do not need to ween off this med.
-Nicotine vape. Prime it to get the smoke going and then take a big pull (like a really big pull), inhale deep and hold.

Here's what has not worked.
-Gabapentin (even up to 1,800mg a day)
-Baclofen
-PPI's
-Reglan
-Every fucking 120 natural remedies I found on the Internet.

Tests I have had:
-Upper GI including hiatal hernia check
-Nuclear food test for gastric emptying
-Chest x ray
-Abdomen ultrasound
-MRI of brain to check for stroke
-Met with pulmonologist
*all of the above things were totally normal.

How much mast? And is it recent? Do you use nicotine?

No covid recently, I think it might be too much stomach acid. Just took tums and Pepcid. Will report back...

I had them bro. for 72 hours. they prescribed me promethazine and they went away within an hour. I still get hiccups frequently if i eat sitting down, or woof food down. also serrano peppers sometimes give me them, my vagus nerve is fucked from overactive PTSD, relax and chill.

I feel your pain back in the day I was partying and into the 2nd day I caught hiccups I literally wanted to die lol. I don't think it was 24 hours maybe 12 but man that was super annoying feeling.

Hope u can get it under control. I habe baclofen I'll try that if it every comes again.

Reno911, are u still having that problem?

I have this problem frequently, it may be due to surgeries I've had, but I really do not know.

Stimulating the vagus nerve solves my issue immediately. Vape or make yourself puke hard. Instant relief.

Vagus nerve is that what makes u gag?
The vagal nerves as the main nerves from the parasympathetic system and control, amongst other things, digestion.

See a doctor.

Reno911, are u still having that problem?

No. I've had bouts of about 7 weeks and 9 weeks about a year apart.

At it's worst, I had them for 12 days straight, 3-13 hours a day. I'd have 2-10 hiccups in a row about every 4-6 seconds. It was pretty horrific. It's like my diaphragm was getting stuck in the "up" position. Sometimes it would lock up just like getting the wind knocked out of you. I could even fall asleep with them!

I was very hesitant to stay consistent with the Chlorpromazine because it's an antipsychotic but once I stuck with the dosage of 25mg 3x/day then they were manageable. After they subsided and I was off the meds, then I'd use the nicotine vape as needed if I had them for more than a few minutes.

Damn bro sounds insane I might go crazy if that happened to me maybe the antipsychotic did well glad u could find remedy for it

i get this periodically once every 1-3 years. My doc prescribes Chlorpromazine. I just got over it. This bout was 4 days. Soma helped as well or at least that's when they stopped.

Sorry but I had to laugh at hiatus hernia. Did the hernia take some time off? 😉😂

I had hiccups for days. I think it was caused by acid reflux.

A guy I met had hiccups for a week each time he had a spinal steroid injection. They concluded on there own for this dude though.

I plan to if they are still here tomorrow
Please let us know what the doctor says.

What is the cause(s)?

What was done to ‘fix’ it?

What the long term effects are?

And if you are comfortable with the doc, share what you are ‘taking’ and if that had any affect?

Signed,
Curious
