Lee labrada low sodium Vs Stan high sodium? why diffrent opinions?

Did Up my sodium from 4000mg to 6000mg yesterday and today feel fuller i guess my body need more sodium then i think especially when i am drinking 5 litre a day and peeing all day.
will stick with 6-7.000mg for couple days and see what happen and how the workouts will be.

havent had good pumps in the gym and felt very soft and not full a while now even my carbs are at 500g a day and calories around 4000.

That was total sodium from what I could calculate.
I honestly never worried about trying to balance the sodium and potassium intake , when i first started worrying about nutrition at all I was told by one of the big old guys in the gym that competed "just make sure you get more then enough , eat you fruit and sweet potatoes and salt your food and it will all work out"
I season my food to taste , eat fruit and veggies and everything else falls into place.
The only time I ever really paid attention to sodium intake was trying to peak for a show and the more I tried to fuck with it and manipulate it the harder it was to catch and balance.
Same here I never tried to calculate it but eat sweet potatoes literally several times a day and if I don’t for a bit I feel it and they are the motherload of potassium, beta carotene, fiber, etc. I don’t think anyone should do low or no sodium just not high either. Potassium supplements are worthless unless you can get a nurse to grab you Klor-Con from the hospital, supplemental potassium requires you. To take insane amounts to get any so food is the best path imo. Calicum can be supplemented quite easily. Again cramps, performance and electrolytes comes down to water balance and the sodium potassium pump which is how you contract your muscles so balance is needed for how the body needs it but I don’t think it’s 1:1 I assume it’s sodium most then cal and lastly potassium but potassium is the hardest to get in larger doses and again our food even unsalted generally has a good bit of sodium compared to say a deer you kill which has basically none whereas anything store bought will have some added salt aside from fresh veggies and fruit.

I'm a fly at 185 and eat 3k per day and 400g protein and my sodium is at 8k, potassium about 4k. I can't see how a large bodybuilder eating a lot of protein could get as low as 2500. Red meet every meal?

I personally don't think lean guys under 200lbs on reasonable gear should have BP or water retention issues. I could run a gram of test no need for an AI or high BP. But I see trt guys on other forums at 15 percent saying they need an AI when taking 100g test and BP meds

Said perfectly I usually cap my test at 750 for no AI but just to be safe not bc there was ever an issue

Less sodium with us imo is always better, we are never deficient but almost always fighting water retention and BP management so unless it’s show week I just try to keep sodium low for health, the healthier you are the better you look and feel.
My personal experience: I pushed sodium high. There was initial water retention, yes, but over time it subsided. Since adding in the sodium I still get better pumps, am more vascular, and full.

sodium cause water retention so i dont understand how you can be hard on high sodium in the offseasson when carbs are high same time shouldn't you be soft and bloated with high sodium?
If consistent with sodium and hydration, your body will adjust in my experience.

We’ll the body will seek its natural balance but higher sodium is stressful, low sodium isn’t and mind you if you’re eating food that isn’t fresh killed there’s sodium in everything. I’m not against a lil himalaya salt on my food but I use a little, a little with what’s in our foods already is enough. Just bc we drink more water doesn’t mean we flush sodium, that only occurs with crazy heat and/or sweating. The only water that doesn’t contain sodium itself is distilled water. Almost all bottled waters have added sodium to boot.
Low sodium can definitely be stressful on the body

Wow perfect sodium levels on 14.000mg sodium or 14g salt? how do you get in 14.000mg potassium to level it up to 1:1 ratio
The body is smart and knows what to do if you’re consistent. The kidney is pretty amazing at filtering what isn’t used.

All this low sodium bullshit came only from one !! reason- people eat so much shit today that is insane. If you eat clean you MUST have sodium in your diet. Try to get a good pump without any sodium in diet. Try to absorb all those carbs you eat without sodium. Try to have a proper mineral balance without sodium- good luck
There is one thing that make you look
like shit- not keeping sodium amount constant- this is the main reason why aldosterone goes up and down- stable sodium-stable aldosterone.

I disagree completely, as an athlete, much less a bodybuilder, you need sodium and a lot of it
Yes, completely true.

I recently ran into (heart) trouble among other health issues due to chronic dehydration due to combining a not even that low sodium intake with a not even that high fluid intake... (And I specifically said "not even", there's lots of you getting in way less sodium than I did and/or drinking way more fluids than I did...)

I urinated out all electrolytes as well and was deficient in all of them the doctor told me.

Salt your meals or don't drink too many fluids people, preferably option a.

Be careful with the fitness and bodybuilding bro-science of a low sodium intake combined with gallons of water. I could have died from the arrhythmias I had.

What a silly way to go that would have been...

Yeah i eat potatos alot but sometimes i am scared to eat to much potassium because potatoes are high in potassium and that it will imbalance the ratio of sodium to potassium.

I drink 5 litre water per day and i pee basicaly every 15-20min and wake up in the night every hour to pee. Am i loosing a lot of sodium and potassium when peeing so much?
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that peeing every 15 mins is not good 😊

Insane you say this.

I had the exact same experience. I wasn’t even trying to restrict sodium, but I simply wasn’t adding it to my meals etc... keep in mind I was working doing concreting in the summer at the time.

I was getting frequent premature ventricular contractions verified by a heart monitor, high RHR, and even edema. Got an echocardiogram and EKG and my heart was fine.

I did some digging and realized I was actually dehydrating myself my drinking plenty of water but not nearly having enough sodium. After getting my electrolytes in place... everything resolved.

Yep 👍 I'm glad we're both still alive to tell about it because once again, what a shitty way to go that would have been.

I have been following the guidelines in this Article here

for my salt and other electrolyte intake, and must say it did have a noticeable effect on my performance in the gym and on the mats, I'm a salty sweater and wasn't really aware how much salt I'm losing every day, must have been deficient for years now.

I was very conservative with upping my Kalium intake, too much can be very bad 😅. But too much salt should not be a problem as long the kidneys are working and we get enough water everyday.

Seriously. Looking back it’s crazy to think I couldn’t put two and two together, but I was just so stuck in the camp of low sodium.

Now I’m easy at least 6g a day, likely more. Only benefits.

Spot on. My sodium has been low due to hearing "2 gallons a day" even when getting 6-7 g sodium per day

Did your sodium test low? How much water were you drinking?

I don't know if I can agree with this article. He doesn't give guidelines to daily sodium and potassium intake from what I can see? And according to him I should take in almost 8 liters of water per day. At 5 litters and about 8 g sodium per day my sodium was below range. I'd be all fucked up drinking 8 liters per day

Please explain eating clean and the need (must?) for sodium.
