I have been training neraly 20 years-legs has always been my strongest muscle group, even when I was natty.
The last 6 months to a year I have been experiencing permanent pain (muscle soreness) in both legs, but more in the left near the IT band.
From the minute I warm up, going down to parallel feels like I just trained legs 3-4 days before and its still healing, even when its been 9-10 days.
My strength has dropped about 10% and the left legs pain is getting worse with each leg workout- it doesnt feel injured, just like it never recovers, my leg development is ok, but I would like to get this remedied and get back to being able to push out a strong leg workout that will promote some growth.
My gut feeling is my job makes me stand alot, and its affecting recovery- but I have worked this job for nearly 3 years and this is just becoming a problem.
Anyone else ever had this happen?

What kind of stretches do you do for your legs?

Keeping yourself flexible and allowing your muscles to be able to stretch during exercises will help with the pain and speed up recovery.

Yeah, I've found out the hard way that stretching isn't optional anymore!

Since I've started stretching good between sets and afterwards, I feel much better and don't get as sore.

I usually do about 10 min of stretching for my hams, basic quad stretching, and some stretching for my hip flexors- this is like having legs that have allready been trained- even the warm ups are sore and painful-and good god when Im done they hurt immediately-used to be 2nd or 3rd day the soreness would really kick in-now a couple hours after I feel like I need a cane.
I used to crush my legs, and besides a little weakness, I didnt used to feel soreness for another day or 2 -now Im hurting just using 135?!
Im just unable to figure it out.

Your stretching needs to be a daily activity for you. I spend about 15 minutes 3 times a day with my stretching, but this has been to help a back problem I have. This type of stretching is good for everyone to do not just those of us that already have problems.

I guess old age is catching up-I hadnt considered stretching more outside of the gym-thanks.

Thats necessary. I have very strong legs and i can put alot of weight on them without loosing a drop of sweat.

But just like you i had pain after workouts and it lasted for a day or two. The only solution i found to this apart from the pain killers is stretching.

Stretch your legs on almost daily basis or when you are feeling pain and everything will be good again.
