This was fun, and another good example of the evil genius that is John Meadows.

18 reps of rack deadlifts with about 10 second breaks (longer when I had to strip plates). The breaks eliminated the stretch reflex and also any bouncing.

It was supposed to be 15 singles but I'm not great at counting.

495 x 7, 405 x 3, 315 x 8

Must be nice to have a power rack where the lowest pin isn't right at the knee cap.

Are you wearing purple pants? :D

crazy bastige:eek:

:D

GOOOOOD Stuff!

That was like a PITT Force style drop - set.

You know, when you're hobbling around to pull the plate for the drop set. that you're in the idiot zone... :)

Yah my partner watched me do the set before he did his.... he wasn't too excited about doing it after he saw how mine went down, lol.

Exactly! lol... you can't see it, but I was pouring sweat out of my forehead by the end too.

Shelby or John-Can you explain the reason for such long rest between reps instead of just knocking them out (Im an idiot and didnt understand the first explanation). Thanks.

Shelby-You are looking huge bro, what is your weight?

John can chime in if he wants but the biggest things I noticed from the rest between reps was that it eliminates using momentum (/bouncing), and it also kills the stretch reflex (you get a stretch reflex in pretty much any lift, where tension builds up during the eccentric and "helps" with the concentric. Imagine squatting from a dead stop from the bottom - you can't do near as much had you started from the top, gone down, then back up. That's primarily due to the stretch reflex).

and I'm about 245 right now.

I use a step. It puts the bar just below the knee. Not exactly the right height, but you sure can move alot of weight that way. And no other exercise hits my traps and rhomboids like it.

Deadlifting in this style has greatly increased my ability to pull much heavier weights off the floor. With bodybuilding as a lifetime goal, as opposed to a "six weeks to a better body" type training, it's my goal to bring my almost 500 lb DL to a 600 lb DL . . and then some. Later on, after getting much stronger, you can go back to "feeling the weight" but the weights will then be much heavier than before, and thus build way more muscle.

This is just the idea I have in my head, by no means am I saying, "this is how you get big".
