THAT is legit? If thats legit I'm going to compete. There were too many hands on the bar and I didn't think he got it. Undoubtedly more than I could fake though.

The only hands that were on the bar were to help him get the bar off the rack. Did you see how long they made him hold that weight in the upright possition? Most people couldn't even hold up 1,000lbs.
 
Thats what I mean. If I'm going to claim a weight, I'd rather do the weight than not be able to lift it out of the rack. But then again, I'd never say what my max is if I had a shirt to get it. My idea of my max is what I can handle and press unassisted.

800 raw is far fetched josh, big gene and i are good buddies and i have competed against him on several occasions, hes truly leagues above any bencher in the game today.
as far as the shirt lifting 250 of it there old qua, lets take ure max, add 250 and a shirt and watch u get stapled to the bench, then well see if u feel the same way, and as far as the rack and unrack, its done for energy saving and safety purposes, could u imagine trying to unrack and set up under 1005lb? i dont bench w/o a handoff at any weight over 405

give credit where credit is due.......This guy is a beast and deserves credit for his HARD WORK and perseverance. That's one hell of a bench without a question!
 
I actually started off powerlifting...

I was ranked 3rd in the nation at 16 yrs old. My best lifts in 123lb weight class were 450 squat 455 dead and 300 bench. I can attest to the bench shirt adding at least 60lbs. This was back in the day when they didnt have the double ply and jean material and what not. That was still impressive. However I love powerlifting but man whats up with the hat and sunglasses??? I just think its better with the shwartz formula bodyweight versus weight lifted. I know it used to piss the bigger guys off but I was impressed when I saw the 181lb weight class squatting in the 700's. Also think its better to bench raw as this way no one could say "the shirt did the work". The only reason I switched to BB was I got up to 220lb with a rather large gut and still hunting the girls so had to get rid of my little ponch. Im happy to say that my joints sure forgive me for switching. Later.

but i like how zeph stated it will add 60, not that it lifted 250, i have yet to lay a shirt on a bench and watch it lift, nor have i ever seen a bttl of test lift a pound as most will claim
yes they help, yes they help prevent injury, but this man is a strength freak, he lifted in the rules of the federation and SMOKED the previous record

It's hard to say how much the shirt helps in terms of weight but Louie Simmons said that it basically eliminates the first half of the lift - as evidenced by guys who can't even get the bar to touch sometimes.I read about someone who was not even able to get 900 to touch due to the shirt being too tight.If you have a strong lock-out it can help A LOT.I have seen some PW's say it can add upp to 300lbs to the raw bench in some lifters!

Man that is fucking incredible. Nitpick all you want-remember how long the 704 record (Ted Arcidi) lasted? 10yrs? Now this guy is doing 1000-it took forever for the 1000lb squat to be done and now guys are benching that!
Id crumble holding that up locked out like he did! :eek:

Ive been hearing about this in the gym alot lately-glad to see the video.
 
most guys dont even know what they can bench raw because they dont train that way. i garuntee the top benchers with the shirts will still be the top benchers without the shirts also. if they trained the whole lift their raw numbers would jump really fast.

even with the shirts, i think gene uses a poly shirt. even so, all lifters have acess to the same shirts, just like they have acess to the same drugs. and gen is 200 pounds over the other top benchers!!! so what the f---- is going on there? he is a damn forklift!!

and to the guy that says it doesnt count unless he lifts off himself, thats absolutely retarded! u obviously dont bench much or u would know that as the weight gets that much heavier u are putting ur joints and tendons at bad angle for injury. benching 200 is much different than 400 which is much diffent than 600. at that weight u cant control mistakes as easy as u can with a lighter weight.
 
all i can say is that is pretty fucking insane. man that dude is a true freak w/out a doubt. :eek:

i have never really been too into powerlifting been to a few meets, but man that gave me goose bumps... haha

when he hit his 965, i ate dinner the night b4 the meet with him and his crew, he had abt 1lb prime rib, a plate of pasta, some butter bread and iced teas lol

and id say hes mid to high 6's as a GUESTIMATE. but i kno he does lockouts and boards over 1200

Like I said before assistance aids are a crutch to me. Im saying if you can bench 1005 with a bench shirt what can you do raw??? Im sure he prob doesnt even know. No offense but once your weights get up that high your ego in the gym is going to make you use your bench shirt and knee wraps constantly to keep the strong guy "strong" all the time. I always trained in offseason with no squat suite no knee wraps or wrist wraps and no bench shirt. I only used this stuff when doing a power lifting cycle the last 8-10 weeks before my meets. Also what doese this guy squat or dead. Or is he a bencher only??? To me he looks like a fat dude no offense. Im still impressed with the lift just some of my opinions of course.
