anyone have good stories, details about working a 12 hour a day job and trying to figure out how to eat and workout properly?

How did you fit in your meals?

How many times a week did you train?

etc....

I appreciate any info

It doesnt leave much time for anything else in your life, thats for sure. A big time saver is making up your food in bulk so that you have enough cooked up to last you many days. I always cook 3 big pans of chicken in the oven, and that will last several days. Cook up big pots of rice etc. I trained 5 days a week. Ran on 6 hours or so of sleep, and tried to take a short nap after work before lifting.

I'm starting a new job in a couple weeks. The hours are 7-6. I'm not real happy about it but I have to take care of my family. On the other hand nothing is going to get in the way of my training either. That's all I do for myself. It will be a 5 minute ride home so I'll eat, take a short nap like I do now, hit the gym, come home, eat again and go to bed early. I'm not used to getting up at 6 but I'll have to have time for breakfast. Leave the cardio for my 2 days off. I plan to pack a cooler to bring to work but I'm not sure how they are gonna feel about me snacking all day so I may have to resort to protein bars and ready made shakes.

i work 7-6 and it's difficult to work those hours and maintain muscle mass especially during pct. i bring literally a grocery bag worth of food that i eat at my desk during the day, in addition to going out for a steak or other high protein lunch break usually.

also annoying is when i go out to lunch with people and they try and they make it like it's not socially acceptable that i don't want to drink.

i usually go to the gym right after work even though i'm tired and then eat a ton when i get home.

I work 12's too...

Workout after I get off work. Prepare meals in advance to take to work. Eat at work every two hours.

It's not that hard once you get a routine and get used to it.

I work 12 hour swing shifts so that makes it even harder.I just pack all my food with me to work and I try to nap when I can and train 5 days a week so im in and out of the gym in less time.I go in there get it done and leave.I actually think its better since im more focused in the gym.

same here i work 12 hour swing shifts, and i am currently prepping for a show and working out twice daily and cardio at night, my wife pretty much does ever little thing she can for me so i can just spend time with my girls and my pets when im at home, without her i would probably be a 120 pound frail little guy! its a lot easier when you have a great support system. hell my 11 yr old daughter is a chicken cooking fool now on the george foreman grill for daddy..LOL and my 8 yr old daughter makes sure the dogs, cat and fish are fed for me.

You just find a way......

I work a 12 and a half hour 6pm to 630 am night shift. I eat about 3/4 pound lean beef at 4:30 in the afternoon and take 3 servings metrx and 2 bananas to eat through the night then hit the gym at 7 am. workout for 45 min, have a post workout shake and in bed by 830 am. Sleep till 3 have a shake hit the shower and start all over again. My strength has gone up, my workouts are focused, I get great pumps, but all other aspects of life suck. It is a 9 to 5 world and working these crazy hours you just don't fit in to the normal swing of things. You will find a schedule that works for you, it just might take some adjusting.

thanks for all the great responses!!

I will be starting a new job in 3 weeks and wanted to start working up a schedule.

7am -7pm Monday -Friday,

45min commute to/from work.

sucks a$$ but I need this job :)

looks like I will only be sleeping 4 hours..lol

...45min commute to/from work....

Find a gym near where you work. Work out there when you get off work.

Then on the drive home you can be relaxing and chugging your PWO shake.

Eat a solid meal right when you get home and go to bed.

This is so true. I work 8pm-8am. Great money, but the schedule sucks badly.

You hit the nail on the head.;)

awesome idea!! thanks for the tip :)

What kind of job do you have to have to work 12 straight hours??

For me MRP's are a necessity, and it's even hard to get those in at times at work.

make your food at the begining of the week in bulk ...weight and package it up and bring what you need to work ...along with protein shakes and protein and meal replacement bars and shakes ...
