Anyone see the report on sleep Sunday. It was very interesting and basically showed a strong correlation to lack of sleep and weight gain. I haven't really researched much but basically leptin is heavily influenced by sleep.

They did one study where they let this go sleep but never achieve REM and when he woke up he would consume a ton of calories. It was very interesting.

I would think there would be a downside to not getting enough sleep. Might be able to gain the weight, but i can't imagine it would be good weight, since the workouts would have to be weaker than normal. interesting

overweight people who never get to REM sleep often have sleep apnea. i think it is also a part of metobolic syndrom X, along with elevated cortisol levels and poor insulin insensitivity.

Isnt REM sleep associated too with HGH release? Or is that during all or different stages of sleep?

I have sleep apnea and my doctor says I will never loose fat if I contiue not to use my CPAP machine.

I think your right

Isnt REM sleep associated too with HGH release? Or is that during all or different stages of sleep?

I am pretty sure that rem stage is when your gh is released.

60 Minutes Link

Here is the link for the two parts if any one is interested. The one researcher says this is a large part, often overlooked, of America's obesity problem.
