a harder exercise than heavy high rep squats??

If you really want to get your thighs growing, then you need to do TRUE high rep squats.

50 reps by 4 sets

Obviously you will need to drop the weight from what you would normally use for 15-20, but the goal is to build size, and that comes with the high volume.
However be prepared to have a hard time walking when you have completed your work out, and you may end up puking.

Try it and post your thoughts.

That's kind of interesting. I got most of my size and muscle maturity from 5 sets of 40 ATG squats with with a pause at the bottom and only 135lbs on my back. Best thing I ever got talked into.

Exactly ojc! High volume reps for legs, and watch them grow.
 
Seriously, one time I did 495 for 20 reps then busted it down to 315 and did 33 reps. I know this isn't that great, but I was proud. In the squat, if you didn't realize.

damn, what is your highest squat # since both of those numbers are ehhh??
 
i'm 5'5'', short legs, long arms and both squats and deads are no problem. high rep, low rep, whatever; bench is way harder becouse somehow i'm afraid of it and i'm structurally handicapped for it.
