Don Coryell. Not many on here may know who I am speaking of......I idolized him and the San Diego Chargers on 1978-1985.......John Jefferson, Dan Fouts, Chuck Muncie, Charlie Joiner, Kellen Winslow..........and the fearless leader, Don Coryell......it truly solidifies that none of us are invincible.......great man, great leader........sad to see him go

Air Coryell !!!

Throw the ball down feild and score, and hope the defense holds up..yeah I remember those days

Didn't know.:(

RIP Don Coryell

The originator of the TRUE West Coast O. I am a HUGE Raider fan but I loved watching his teams play the old Raiders in their glory years. He was a true innovator, a lot of what you see now is a direct result of his innovations. Four wide sets, tight ends that were legit deep threats (Kellen Winslow), max protect deep balls on 1st and 2nd down...all Coryell products. D was kinda an afterthought for him, which as a Raider fan I am glad for because his offence was the best of it's age, not even a close second.

Just like Shooter, any longtime Raider fan (now longtime suffering Raider fan) is well aware of Air Coryell. It is true that Don doesn't get full credit for all his innovations (and it's sometimes irritating that people give Bill Walsh - a great coach but an arrogant asshole - credit for some of Coryell's ideas).

I remember some incredible games between the Raiders and the Chargers with Fouts at the helm. Like Shooter and other Raider fans, I was thankful that Defense was way down the list of Coryell's concerns.

Didn't realize that Don was old as he was until I saw the obit yesterday.

Wow, have not heard that name for a long time. RIP

Well

I LOVED the John Jefferson match up with Lester Hayes......

Great Read on Coryell's impact

**broken link removed**

just came accross this and thought of this thread.
Sad...I am now being nice to Charger's fans. Soft in old age I am...
