A piece of rubber fell inside the vial - happens to you ?

I have been poking the rubber on the vial so much to draw oil out that a piece of rubber was torn apart and fell in the oil !

is it still safe to inject this oil ? Theres 20ml of eq in it

That used to happen to me a lot. Probably wouldnt be a bad idea to filter it into a fresh vial, but I never did, and I personally never had any problems, although I am sure it is possible. I had vials I used for mixing that would get poked like crazy, and also a giant jug of grapeseed oil for diluting crippling compounds, and the rubber from both would really end up in bad shape. Best thing is just to try not to poke the vial too much or in the same spot too frequently.

Also, I know 18 gauge is great for loading but it really tears up the rubber, so it may be worth it to take a little longer and use a smaller gauge to load your pins.

It's also always a good idea to keep antibiotics on hand, I have needed them once, and was very happy they were here waiting for me.

The biggest thing I worried about is the rubber disintegrating into the oil and then getting put into your body. Again, I never had any problems but I am not going to be the person to tell you your gear is fine, and not to worry about it. In hindsight, it would have probably been a better idea to toss it, just to be safe, but I am sure plenty of people have ruber in their vials and don't even know it, even with HG gear.

yes happend to me few times before,especialy your using thick needle to withdraw the gear,what i did is aspirate the rubber by using thick needle,and the rest i think is safe

I'd say transfer to 2+10ml vials and bake in the oven

like mace said, probably would be better to transfer it over to another vial. but it has happened to me too before, and it was fine.

At the very least I would use a filter needle to aspirated the contents and transfer to a new sterile vial. Most supply shops have the filter needles and empty vials.

18 G blows stoppers up for sure...all the suggestions are great ones but i just avoid drawing it up into pin if possible and if it happens i just transfer into another pin and it usually stays in the fist pin just my exp.

Dude, this is not a big deal. I have had this happen many times. Stick a syringe/needle into the bottle. Put the needle tip right to the piece of broken off rubber. Draw the plunger back and suck it into the syringe. Pull the needle out of the bottle. You will have wasted maybe a fifth of a cc. Done deal.

Not a big deal. Just avoid the piece of rubber when drawing. Plus I have found that if you draw it in with an 18g needle it won't inject through a 23g.

I have also found that BD 18g needles keep this from happening. Every other brand I used I ended up with bits of rubber stopper floating.

I had this happen once, I was instructed by my nurse cousin, to angle the needle on entry to allow a flap to be created instead of going straight in. Never had this issue again since then.

Yup, that works perfectly. I lost a tiny bit of EQ but got rid of the nasty piece of rubber.

I use a 25g

see the problem isn't the rubber passing the needle because it won't !

but I thought it could carry bacteria in the oil and you all know bacteria grows

yeah, it's called "coring" in the pharmacy. A tip I learned in pharmacy school is to angle the bevel tip of the needle at 45 degrees when inserting and once it's pierced through, straighten out and draw while the vile is upside-down...I've been using the technique for years in the pharmacy and personally and i've never "cored".

The safest thing to do is to use a filtered needle and transfer to a sterile 10ml vial and bake it in the oven. I wouldn't wanna run the risk of having bits of rubber going into me in any way..i've seen some crazy crap with this kinda stuff...seems small but it has potential to cause damage. Personally speaking, I would do all I could to prevent any type of internal damage.

You definitely don't want rubber going into you. But, I had this happen a couple of times. Just avoid drawing it up when pinning. No problem.

Exactly!! And use a 23g or 25g pin. No need for the roofing nail..lol

SO I loaded up my pin today, were ready to inject ! Thank god, I saw a VERY little black thing in the oil

FML ! It was a very small rubber, and the rubber moved so slowly that I had to point the syringe down towards the ground and wait for the rubber t get to the bottom where it enters the syringe, once it got to the bottom, I removed the syringe and let the oil drop one time with the rubber leaving

So I guess that's what I should do from now on !

What's a good syringe size that doesn't fuck with the rubber of the vials like that ? seems like 18 is too big

Just depends on your patience. 21-23G seem to be a nice compromise.

One thing I do and others have referenced it is pre loading pins. Now I do most of my pinning with 28 slin pins. So if I have a 10ml vial of whatever. I'll take my 3ml 21-23G and draw out then backload the slin pins. So in this case I'm only piercing the stopper a total of 4 times to get that 10ml out. Even if I had a 20ml vial it'd only be 7 pierces. Compare this with how many you might be doing if each and everytime you are drawing out only that days needs. Not to mention with pre loads the morning pin processes is much quicker as its literally grab and go.

I use a 20 guage to draw but I do it the way I described above and i've never cored the rubber stop. Oh, and I always use a fresh one because the tips on these things can also dull after just a single use. The fresher and sharper the tip, the less risk you have of tearing the rubber while inserting (that's what ..nvm). Just make sure you have the bevel tip down toward the rubber stop at 45 degrees instead of stabbing straight in.

damn ! I couldn't even push the plunger trying to inject with slin pin

also may I know what G and how many inches are your slim pins ? where do you inject?
