A question to all the blood work experts here..

Just had my blood work checked again(due to the last one that showed a low-border line thyroid so my doc put me on Cytomel(T3),50mcg./day.Anyway i'll get to the point(im posting it because i just got the results today and still havent had a chance to talk to my doctor):

TSH:1.49(0.45-4.5)-RANGE.
THYROXINE(T4):2.9(4.2-12)-LOW
T3 UPTAKE:34(24-39)
FREE THYROXINE INDEX:1.0(2.2-4.9)-LOW.

WHAT WOULD YOU MAKE OUT OF THIS?(I ASKED HIM TO UP MY T3 DOSE TO 75mcg./day) THANKS!!

Looks like the T3 to T4 conversion isn't that great. I think that Armour Thyroid is a combination of t3/t4. You might want to ask him about that.

Well,he just uped my dose to 75mcg. of T3.

Did he put you on t3 (triiodothyronine ) medication cytomel or liothyronine sodium or t4( Thyroxine), which medication is (Brand-synthroid/Generic-levothyroxine). Docs in US don't prescribe t3 unless its the t4/t3 combination in Armour OR Thyrolar and most don't even like prescribing ARMOUR. T4 sucks IMO.

Keep in mind t3 is almost 4 time stronger than t4. So 50mcg t3 is almost 200mcg t4.

Where you at that a doc prescribed 75mcg t3.

He should be testing you for Free T3 for sure, and Free T4.
Your TSH looks fine your Thyroxine is going to be low because your body is sensing that it has enough T3 and will not stimulate the Pit to make more T4.
T4 has to be converted to be effective there fore you have plenty of T3 so no T4 will be made.
Strange -most docs treat hypothyroidism with Synthroid which is T4.

Like Dragonfire said T3 is very potent 75 mcg is a very high dose, and the half life is very short as well.
It's one big loop and you have been given the solution (T3) so he should be checking that level to see what the actual amount of free hormone is in the blood.

Thanks for your reply!!-i actually asked him to put me on T3 rather than T4,just because i read and hear that its more effective-he was going to give me T4 but said he doesnt have a problem with the T3,also from what i understood from the pharmacist-the half life of T3 is 48-hours so its ok to take the whole dose 1st. thing in the am 30-min before a meal(the whole 75mcg.)-does anyone here thinks different?(since i hear a lot of times that the T3 dose should be split).
