great post, but...

Thanks for sharing this great post; however, I disagree with part of it. In my experience, variations of the HIT routine have been the most beneficial for increasing strength and quality gains. As you mentioned, we all respond differently, to call the HIT strategy stupid is a little extreme.

I like to change my routines every 2-3 months and look forward to working two that you mentioned in. Thanks again.
 
That was an AMAZING article. There was not one thing in that article that was factually misrepresented as we see in so many others.

I was a little confused by this though-

"29. Is getting ultra fired up and banging your head against the wall a good thing to do?

Fully motivated efforts can take 5 times as long to recover from than un-motivated efforts, which is a good reason to AVOID stimulants like ephedrine, which create “artificial” motivation and thus can prolong recovery time. Stimulating growth rarely, if ever, requires a person get fired up to the level some people think is necessary."

Anyone care to clarify? I should not be getting all fired up for my squats and pushing myself to the very limit?! DC spends whole pages writing about how you have to push yourself to the very limit so that's what I've been doing.

Has to be related to CNS fatigue and possibly adrenal fatigue. As a strength coach I prohibit players from cheering for their teammates during pre-testing in the major lifts because I did not want to base their training loads on super motivated lifts. They would never have been able to sustain that level of intensity over a training cycle.
