Hey everyone, I haven`t posted much here but I do read a lot of the threads on PM.

It may be a stupid question but where I live I don`t know anyone else who bodybuilds so the only place I can turn to for info such as this is online forums.

I want to be a competitive bodybuilder. Whether or not I have the potential to do anything special in this sport, I don`t really know or care I just want to become the best bodybuilder I can be.

So my question is this, when would be a good time to start using anabolics to take it to the next level. I am a life time natural so far and I have been training for quite some time.

I know many factors come into play when asking this question such as development, age, genetics, and knowledge. I have obviously read a lot on the topic but I am being as patient as I can but I know eventually I`ll have to use and I have no problem with that. I am to be a size that naturally cannot be attained.

I am 20 years old, 260-265 pounds at about 5`10 with 15 to 18% bodyfat and have been training consistently since my mid teens. I can wait till I`m 25 or longer if that were the case but I`m just curious to when you all believe taking advantage of AAS would be of benefit to me.

I want to be competitive and get to 300 pounds or heavier if I can at a reasonable body fat percentage as quickly and as safely as possible so this is why I`m curious. I just don`t want to waste years being natural when I could have been using my time more effectively considering where I want to be. If that makes any sense haha.

If this doesn`t make sense I will try to clarify but I sure hope it does. I`m not one of those people that believe using AAS will make you look like a pro obviously. I just realize that to be competitive and get where I want to be it`s necessary. Thanks
 
Diet down. Compete in a natural show, and see how you do. Learn everything you can in the process. If after competing naturally you still got the itch you'll probably be in alot better place to take the plunge. You'll be a year older, alot leaner and hopefully alot more knowledgable about training and diet.

This is great advice except I can`t seem to find any shows that I could compete in canada. Maybe I`m looking in the wrong places haha. I live in Ontario if that helps. Does anyone know of a show that a beginner could do? I`d do a show as soon as I could if there was one. I`d probably do a 16 week prep. I`d probably need to hire some type of prep coach.

Maybe even if I can't find a show to compete in maybe just do a mock contest prep because I have never done a contest prep.

Please do. You more than likely have a ton of potential. Find out what you can do natural.

Hire Alex Azarian, he does 16 week preps. Start on your diet now, before that.

You realize there is nothing safe about being 5'10 and 300 pounds right? Regardless of how you get there.

I agree with Ridges advice on dieting down and doing a natural show first...If you cant find a show now how will you find one just because your on AAS?

No hahaha. I think you misunderstood. I want to be extremely muscular regardless of my bodybuilding goals but I do want to compete. I know being 300 pounds at 5'10 isn't healthy but all I'm saying is I want to get there as safely as I can. Obviously there are risks involved.

Also being on AAS doesn't mean I'm going to find a show to do haha. I just mean the first show I do I would more than likely want it to be local so I don't have to travel extremely far. Only because it will be my first show. Using before my first show or not, it does not matter to me. Competing or not I want to be as muscular as my genetics will permit.

I just don't want to be natural for another 5 years or whatever making slim changes every slowly when it would be better to take advantage of AAS if that makes sense? Patience is a virtue I posses I'm just merely asking the question to whether or not it would wise to use in my sooner than later future, considering my goals.
 
I competed in the USBF and they do a ton of show in Upstate NY.
 
263 x 16% = 43 LBS

263-43 = 220

This is a competition Weight of 225-230 at 5.10

Better Than Ronnie Coleman at his first Competition at 5.11 210.

If your truly 15% to 18%, you got Way Enough Mass to do a show.
 
I couldn't agree more...alot of people that think they are a certain bf% are nowhere near it(for instance I know a guy telling people he was 12-14% two wks ago, I told him he looked 20-22% when I tested him he was 21.0%)

well the only reason i say between 15-18% is because at a local clinic they did a caliper test on me and it kept saying 15% but in my honest opinion I believe I am at 20% but we did the test three times getting the same results and it was a trained profession performing the test.

I don't have a camera but I will see if my ex girlfriend will let me borrow her(awkward haha). The only reason why I am contemplating going down this path is because ultimately I know this decision will have to be made at some point. I also know that to get where I want to get it cannot be done naturally so I'm not sure what to think. I am however going to wait and do a contest first and take the advice above.

But being natural for another 10 years isn't something I want to do necessarily. But I appreciate the advice. I'm assuming I'd be a lean 200 maybe 205 but who knows. I don't know if I have good genetics or not but statistics are telling me I don't considering how rare it is haha. Either way I appreciate the advice and more is always welcome.
 
Bro I don't want You to think I'm being critical either....to get an accurate reading see if any PT's in Your gym do it, or try an electronic one(reason I say is not everyone uses calipers correctly)...I've managed PTs for yrs & had very few that were ever accurate with them

PS....with Your size, You could do damage:D

ya i agree. I'll see if I can get my hands on one of the electronic ones. Can't you buy weight scales that have a function similar to those machines? Maybe I'll get one

alright I'll get the photos. My bodyfat is getting high but I don't see it being over 21% but I'll let you guys be the judge. Being 5'10 to 5'11 at 265 isn't that big at my bodyfat percentage, or at least I thought. But I appreciate the replies and I'll get the photos asap.

At what body weight would I be competing at roughly? considering the info above.
 
At age 20, you're on natural steroids... Now that I'm in my 40s I think back on the time in my late teens and early 20s with fondness. Youth is truly wasted on the young, LOL.

Prepping for a contest is a great idea, because nothing else does as good a job at convincing someone how important diet is to achieving your physique goals. Your body truly is an amazing chemistry set.

I would wait until you're at least 25. It will give you time to learn how your body responds to different macronutrient ratios, give you a little more muscle maturity, etc.
