If your body doesn't remove the rest on it's own then it will harden and you will have a little marble sized lump remaining in your shoulder.

Same here Bro, seemed like a quart came out. LOL funny now, NOT funny then. Thank God they gave me a shot of demeral first, still hurt like all hell. 3" deep cut in ass, 3 days IV in the Hospital, dont think I slept a wink the whole time. Miserable time.:banghead:

This. I've had two sterile abcesses. One in my shoulder and one in my leg. I manually drained both over a period of a couple days, pinning around a lot with a 23g 1" and sucking out the blood and puss. Now I have tiny lumps in those areas. I think foam rolling is helping.

I almost think it is an inevitable part of using gear. We all pin so much it's just bound to happen, even with proper sanitation.

Reading these horror stories about abscesses from injecting, brings me to the conclusion that you guys are hard as fucking nails. I've never been a massive fan of needles, so I'm feeling green just thinking about injecting this synthelamin I ordered a few days a go.

Are abscesses purely down to poor sanitation when injecting? Like I said, you're a bunch of hardcore fuckers in here, respect

Poor sanitation can be one cause yes. Poorly sanitized injections can lead to infections in the abcess that spread to the body.

I think what the OP was talking about was a sterile abcess, which is an abcess that doesn't result in infection(fever, headaches, etc). These can happen from pinning day after day in the same spot (from chemicals in the gear), from injecting gear too close to an artery or lymph node, or from injecting a tiny piece of the rubber stopper as well.
