Acipimox or Olbetam is the pharma version of a niacin derivative, we know that niacin supplementation has some effect on cholesterol metabolism but often isnt used as a treatment bc of side effects from long term use. Acipimox, doesnt seem to have the adverse effects of simple niacin like hepatotoxicity or glucose metabolism impairment, it is a hypolipidemic but I read some athletes use it in conjuncture with insulin and or growth to keep blood lipid levels down this in turn offsets any anti-lipolytic effect. From the small amount of research it shows "reduced FFA achieved by acipimox improved fasting measures of glucose homeostasis, lipids, and adiponectin but had no effect on mitochondrial function, mitochondrial density, or muscle insulin sensitivity." So it's use as a PED are limited but it's value as an adjunct to things like a statin? Thoughts? Anyone have first hand use
