You say all he found was a loaded needle? tell him you found it outside and you put it in a safe place till you had time to deliver it to the hospital cos it might be very important to the person who lost it.

A lot of judgemental posts on here, sometimes white lies are told to protect kids from reality but obviously theres some holier than thou characters here.

I think the approach of telling him that is medicine from the doctors is probably the safest and easiest way to deal with it now since he is so young. I would worry that he would say something about it at school and then youll have child services show up at your doorstep. kids talk a lot, and I bet that he might mention something to his friends and the teacher might get word of it. I think if you try to hide it more that it might make matters worse in that it will make him want to talk more about it.
