Phil Pfister just won the worlds strongest man contest!!! Man what a surprise!
He's always been a solid competitor but not looked at as a serious contender.
Awesome!

The news hasnt been updated yet, but Pfister had won the last 4 events in a row and still trailed Pudzianowski by half a point with the last event to go, the Atlas Stones. Im guessing Pfister won that event too. Not too bad.

That's right. There's also the IFSA, which has Zavickas who is really stronger than Pudzianowski, and also Virastiuk.
I don't think that it would have mattered much with Zavickas in the picture because he is a lot slower than Pudzianowski and the WSM events are built around a combo of speed and strength.
But I think that it was Pfister's week to win no matter who he was up against. The guy won 5 of 8 events including the last 5 IN A ROW!! That is unbelievable. I think that when you get in a groove like that your confidence builds to levels that make you feel invincible and PHIL PFISTER last week was invincible.

definately...he deserved this win without a doubt...major props to him

Wow! I figured that either Jesse Marunde or that Nee kid would be the next American to take it. How did Jesse do btw?

It's too bad, he missed out on qualifying for the finals by something really small like one point. He was doing well in the qualifying and then I think that he irritated an old hamstring injury or something like that. He was close and definitely would have been one of the favorites if in the final.

If he couldn't even make the finals I doubt he would have been a favorite in them (had he made it). Obviously he didn't show well. Props to Phister but I am a Pudz fan, so I don't get on the whole "go USA" thing when it comes to WSM.

I think what btmagnus is saying is that if he didn't injury his hamstring in the qualifing event then he would have done well in the finals. He took second last year. It is possible to be doing very well at something and get an injury that sets you back.

Does anyone know when it will air? Is it going to be around New Year's like always?

If he wasn't injured he would have been a favorite. I guess you don't know too much about the history of Worlds Strongest man?? No American has won it in over 20 years, when Bill Kazmaier won back in the early 80's.
The event has been dominated by eastern europeans and scandinavians.
That's why this is rare and kinda special.

I am very aware of the history and have seen about every WSM there is, going back to Jon Paul and OD Wilson. It's just a thing where I don't pull for Americans because I am one, unless i like em (loved Kaz for instance). I am a huge Super Mario fan. Not a Phil Phister or Jesse M fan. No offense.

Phil Pfister is gonna be on the Letterman show tonight. I think he is going to be doing some car flipping. When was the last time a strongman was on a late night show in the U.S.? Pretty good.

Yeah that's ok. You know that Jesse M (SQUATTER) used to be on this forum all the time? Real nice guy. Always willing to help out with training and strongman advice. That's why it would have been cool to see him take it.
