It was a Hard piece of pumace shaped like a Heart. They came in a Pack of 2 for $1.20.

The ampule opener scores the top of the ampule so that the break is clean and there are no glass shards that fall into the ampule. I found the thumb technique works most of the time, but occasionally the break is fragmented.

Please buy filter needles. Even with scoring, there may be glass in the solution, just not visible. There have been cadaver liver's found with glass micro-particles in them... if it affects health or not, I don't know... but I'd rather not have glass in my liver just in case

You can score the amp using a 3 angled file. Take the inkwell (ballpoint) out of Bic pen and use the hollow tube to snap the amp top. Never fails to work perfectly.

Can also use paper towel or tissue to hold the amp and then snap clean, usually there is a dot or other marking where the amp is weakest.

I managed to break more amps trying that opener than I ever did using nothing. I wouldn't recommend it. IMHO...
