And now.. the Oatmeal thread!

I read the article. It seems they really have a hard on against the artificial sweeteners. IMO and experience, I get no negative affects using artificial sweeteners. I have been learning about their effect on the gut biome but I think for most people without any digestive issues, artificial sweeteners are probably ok. If you have celiac, crowns, colitis, heartburn, IBS, etc, I would stay away.

That being said, I prefer the Lower Sugar Quaker Apples & Cinnamon. I usually mix 1-2 packets with just plain flavor and that gives it enough flavor w/o too much sugar. It's very hard to find where I live tho : (

Quaker quick oats. 1 packet stevia, cinnamon.

I have tried steel cut and oat bran. However. I prefer the regular non flavored quick oats. Add some almond milk and protein powder. Nicely flavored from the protein powder.

Otherwise. One could also add cocao powder , cinnamon , flex/hemp seeds etc ...

Coaches oats

any organic old fashion...(not the quick)

handful of chopped walnuts or pecans.....tablespoon of raw brown sugar.
grass-fed butter....vanilla extract.....dash of cinnamon....
top off with some unsweet vanilla almond milk.

tastes like your eating pecan pie.

steel cut need to be soaked for 24 hours before cooking...

Lately I've been digging just plain old oats and water. I used to do this back in the day when all I ate was "bodybuilding foods."

Other ways I dig oats is simple proats:

Cooked quick oats.
Chocolate whey
Cocoa powder
Peanut butter
and sometimes I'll throw in some dark chocolate if my macros allow for it.

from the recipes forum

2 cups of steel cut oats
¼ cups of flax seeds
¼ cup of chia seeds
¼ cup of hemp seeds
a handful of dehydrated blue berries

8 cups of water min.

Bring water to boil; add ½ teaspoon of salt (sea) and add the
above ingredients and bring back to a boil while stirring always
for ~ 1 minute.

Cover and let sit overnight.

For breakfast I scoop out 1 cup of the cooked oats and add a
bit of almond milk to it and I heat it up in the microwave.

You are good to go for at least a week at this size serving.

Refrigerate between servings.

I really like the peaches and cream, strawberry and cream packets. Loaded with sugar, but they're delicious. But what I eat most often is the following:

60-80g of Quick Oats (for the convenience)
~1.5" length of rip banana cut into small pieces*
Splenda to taste
SF Vanilla coffee syrup
Cinnamon to taste
(and sometimes chopped pecans or walnuts)

So that I always have banana for my oatmeal, I peel and freeze overly ripe bananas that no one will eat after they're cut into ~1.5" long pieces and coated with lemon juice to keep them from turning brown.

100% old fashioned not the quick with skim milk, cinnamon, organic stevia, and blueberries.

Quick oats in skim with peanut butter and scoop of whey

standard quaker old fash with salt and, sometimes, a splenda for a sweet/salty taste if I'm in the mood.

old fashioned oats, handful of strawberries and blueberries, and cinnamon. Anything sweeter is too much for me.

i do 1/2 cup of steel cut oats with my pre and post workout shakes. I also add the oats and a blend of nuts that i mix in the vitamix for a mid day snack/ meal when needed.

If i eat them i like to always add cinnamon and some fruit.

Quaker Old fashioned Oats with some Torani Sugar Free Vanilla syrup...... BOOM

Quaker old fashion...the double box from Costco. I powderize that for my shakes. If eating hot, I use the instant or quick oats. I have not been able to get a liking to coach's oats, but I'd have to give them another try. That's what I use. If I didn't buy Quaker, I'd probably use TN's oatmeal.
