One of our coaches had a stroke 2 months ago where I work. He's back but he gets his class times mixed up even now. He's getting better.

This morning our industrial arts [shop] teacher had a TIA. He's in the hospital now getting a multitude of tests done.

Fellas, pay attention to what you are eating. Blood clots aren't a good thing- especially when they happen in your brain. These guys are 46 and 48 respectively.

Diet- Learn what to eat to minimize your risk of such an event. Scary as hell to me since my dad had on a year or two ago.

Jethro:

Very sorry to hear about your colleague.

We have three guys who I see at the gym pretty often over the last six or seven years and we kind of poke fun at each other, as we are lifting "to get big" and they are "lifting before spin class or pilates". :) They are in their early fifties and friends since around twelve years old.

One guy had a troublesome cold for a few weeks, no energy but came back into the gym. His wife came by the weight room and was talking to him and his workout partners. He kept referring to one of his workout partners as "him". The partner jokingly replied "You don't even know my name do you?" And he said "No". He wasn't joking.

He went in last Friday to operate on one of the two brain tumors they discovered. The other is inoperable. Heck, he was lifting two weeks ago! I hope to learn tonight how the surgery went.

Yeah, it's pretty alarming.

I see these guys every day and then the ambulance pulls up and boom, that's it.

The guy who got hauled off today calls me "the god." Pretty funny guy. I hope his personality etc, remains. Pretty sucky for his family too.

Were they overweight? Never been to gym or exercise? I dont know about the MEdical side of it but what causes the Blood Clots?

that is so sad:(..I hope everyone is helping him anyway they can.

I've definately seen strokes change personalities, at least temporarily. Crying at inappropriate times, etc.

I certainly hope his personality and outlook aren't affected as it seems that they will be big allies in his recovery. My thoughts are with him Jethro.

This is the kind of stuff that scares me about elevated hematocrit and anabolics. When I hear these guys talking about the "increased recovery" from high RBC's, I just cringe. No warnings when this happens either. I hope everything turns out OK.

They are both normal guys.

One has a little gut. The other guy, the coach works out all the time. I see him up there during our prep period on the treadmill every day. He lifts three days a week. No steroids, or anything.

Typical American diet. Ben the shop teacher doesn't exercise and he thinks just cause he "stays busy" that covers the bases.

Well, it looks like eating the right foods is crucial. A guy can't go wrong with lean protein sources, vegetables and a little fruit. Supplement the hell out of the fish oil and olive oil. etc... Seems like the knowledge is out there, but no one follows it.

Man, sorry to hear. I hope things turn out okay for him.

what's that saying?

There except for the grace of god goes I. (badly paraphrased)

I hope they make a full recovery. And I hope they go to a university rehabilitation center.

Its a scary thing to see people around you going through these things. I just found out the guy who owned the small hardcore gym i learned how to workout at years ago had died. His wife was talking to him in the bathroom and when she turned around to walk out she heard him hit the floor. OUT OF NOWHERE! he had a stomach aneurysm and died instantly... no history of problems.. trained 5 days a week and ate pretty well compared to the typical "american diet"... so sad :(

Jethro ...

you know what else is dangerous for someone's heath that needs to be addressed....

eating monster cookies who belong to another person......

I know! lol.

I thought about that AFTER consuming as many as I could. I think the ice cream helped to clarify my thinking.

:D

Good idea to get annual check ups and blood work done.
